SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) -- The story behind the legislation reads like a movie pitch.

The wife of a Southern California police detective, distraught because she had lost custody of her children, tries to hire a hit man from the Vagos motorcycle gang to kill him.

Instead, gang members alert police, who disguise themselves as biker thugs and secretly tape a conversation with her.....

Isn't it already illegal to attempt to hire someone to commit murder? Don't they have Conspiracy Statutes in California?

What do they need another law for?

the legislation will specify that spouses who solicit the murder of their husband or wife are not entitled to collect financial rewards in divorce proceedings.

Sounds reasonable.

So that they can piggy-back some anti-gun BS onto the bill....

Because targeting people like this makes politicians look like they are “doing something”

They (hit men) are only trying to make ex’s go away that we are too lazy to make go away ourselves. What could be wrong with that?

Just goes to show that the old adage, "If you want a murder done right, you had best do it yourself." Is true. Which is why I, for one never waste my money on hitmen.

(It's a joke...so don't call the police!)

“If you commit arson on your house, you don’t get the insurance money. You go to prison and all sorts of things happen to you,” Pomroy said in an interview. “But if you try to kill someone that is your spouse, the current law allows you to collect something.”

I’ve heard of quite a few cased of an angry spouse trying to hire a hitman. I even read that the ex of Jon Cryer (the wimpy brother on “2 1/2 Men”) tried to have him killed. This case involves a cop’s ex-wife. Apparently the cops only got concerned about passing a new law when a cop was the target.

OK,OK,OK. Yes, this is good...but I thought murder was already legal. Is this what the idiots in Sacramento are spending their time on? Really?

I would think its already illegal to hire a hit man.

The legislature should be trying to balance the budget!!

What’s this world coming to when you can’t even trust a biker gang not to report you to the police?
