A private investigator who helped build an extortion case against Joran Van der Sloot says the young Dutchman should have been arrested before he went to Peru.
Bo Dietl says FBI agents recorded a meeting last month in Aruba where Van der Sloot requested money from a lawyer for the family of Natalee Holloway in exchange for information about her 2005 disappearance.

VanderSloot is a pathological liar but the Peruvian justice system got the truth out of him.
*ping*
not much new here, but Dietl was on the inside.
this punk is gonna really get punked in Peruvian jail.
Indeed.
Heard a news report that he was crying to his mother that the Peruvian investigators were forcing him to confess. Poor baby.
(I had questioned what he was wearing when he left to buy coffee - turns out he was wearing the same white shirt - so Stephany MAY HAVE STILL BEEN ALIVE).
I think she was tricked into giving him a ride to his hotel and tricked into going to his room - he is a slick, sick operator.
I've read that the FBI specifically requested Beth Holloway to NOT comment on the case; so until the FBI issues a statement that the 25 grand was NOT their own money used as part of an elaborate sting, then I will believe it was the FBI's ---- but this is my OPINION, only.
I don't believe that Beth Holloway would wire JVDS twenty five CENTS - much less 25 grand!!
They gave that psychopath $25,000?
So then, it COULD be argued that the FBI enabled/facilitated a serial killer as he went about finding, pursuing and murdering his next victim.
***ol’ Bo has frequently been sensationalistic*** He still is;)
Article: The retired New York City detective said Wednesday that Van der Sloot received $25,000 in the sting operation before he left for Peru.

Looks as if it was FBI funded. IMHO Beth wouldn’t give JVDS a dime.
I don't think so... I think they got an extremely watered down version of the events, designed to make it look more like an "accidental" killing rather than a killing done with forethought and malice.
I agree. Unless of course it was an whole ROLL of dimes, "given" to him from the barrel of a 10 gauge shotgun.
I’m confused then. He left to buy coffee and then returned? I thought he simply left. As to his shirt, a guy like him in a room with a girl for four hours—what are the chances he wore his shirt the whole time?
0bama is OUR van der sloot.
Instead of killing 1 or 2 girls, he’s killing us all slowly. He keeps extorting money from us to fund his next attack — on us.
Not all the hotel video tapes have been released.
What we HAVE seen is:
5:33 JVDS in a long-sleeved white shirt & Stephany going past the desk - stopping for his key and going to his room.
Stephany is not carrying anything - a purse or an overnight.
8:56 JVDS leaving the room with a backpack & luggage - wearing a multi-colored/striped golf shirt and blue jeans.
The tape of JVDS leaving for, & returning with coffee at 7:30-8:00 has not been shown, but in answer to a viewer’s question - Jean Cesarez said he was wearing the white shirt.
This is my take from reading various sites.
Beth Twitty told the FBI when Joran contacted her.
The FBI set up a sting. Beth's lawyer, John Q Kelly, went to Aruba and gave Joran $10,000 cash and also wired $15,000 to a Dutch account. Those events set Joran up for extortion and wire fraud. There is a video of Joran counting the $10,000.
Aruban authorities were in on this and warned the FBI that Joran was going to leave Aruba shortly.
That is where the criticisms of the FBI dropping the ball are coming from.
They had Joran but didn't arrest him in time.
Which is rather frightening when one considers how much stuff has been written over the past 5 years about possible Chicago MOB connections to Aruba, which I've read is frequently called, MAFIA ISLAND.

Did not know the FBI could arrest anyone in a foreign country without INTERPOL or the national law enforcement. Seems that the Aruban authorities had the responsibility to intercept him at the airport - with possessing foreign currency etc., etc.,
“So then, it COULD be argued that the FBI enabled/facilitated a serial killer as he went about finding, pursuing and murdering his next victim”
We will know when the Flores family files a lawsuit against the FBI and (don’t be surprised) the Holloway family.
Yes, no doubt he, after some “questioning” decided to confess but only that it was an “accident”. I think the condition of the body (broken neck, etc.) will show the level of his ongoing deceit.
Isn’t the FBI an agency of the U.S. Department of Justice?
