Satirical BP Twitter feed keeps spewing humor

A Twitter stream has burbled up out of nowhere of late to become a free-flowing phenomenon.

It's a satirical account calling itself "@BPGlobalPR," and it skewers oil giant BP for its Gulf oil spill cleanup efforts.

"Proud to announce that BP will be sponsoring the New Orleans Blues Festival this summer w/ special tribute to Muddy Waters," it proclaimed.

Another Tweet: "The good news: Mermaids are real. The bad news: They are now extinct."

A third: "Jelly beans, roller coasters, pizza and trampolines. Without oil, none of these would exist. Just something to think about."

The account was opened May 19 by an unidentified user and is, of course, fake. The real Twitter feed for BP is "@BP_America" and features such things as links to video feeds of well-plugging procedures.

But where other Twitter impersonators have been swiftly sunk by the social networking site, the bogus BP stream was still going strong Wednesday.

"I'm not aware of whether BP has made any calls to have it taken down or addressed," BP spokesman Toby Odone told the magazine Advertising Age. "People are entitled to their views on what we're doing, and we have to live with those."

He added that the satirical account had changed its logo from the signature green BP image to a black one (with some dark substance spilling off of it).

The fake Twitter feed had more than 50,000 followers Wednesday night. The real one? About 6,000.

BP was the victim of a horrific accident. They have done everything they could to fix it. Eventually their efforts will serve as the blueprint for deep sea drilling disaster response. But 0bommunist will get the credit and BP the blame in the lamestream media.

>>BP was the victim of a horrific accident. They have done everything they could to fix it<<

Shhhhh, stop making sense.
People here want this soap opera to continue and BP has become FR’s Halliburton.

It is probably Halliburton that is fixing this. They own Baroid, probably the largest mud engineering company.

Seriously.
None of these companies are evil. They do jobs. They cut costs as they can. This one went wrong, but if it had gone well, we’d be singing their praises.

A lot of the tweets are liberal propaganda... some are funny. One of the funniest items is Dick Sanchez’s CNN saying that he will hold off everything to get an interview. However, the content is not the what is funny, the number of Dick Sanchez’s followers (40) is a belly buster.

Nope, it appears Transocean engineers balked at the desire of a BP “company man” to go ahead with a process to clear the riser with seawater which caused the accident.

After the BP official went against all the engineering advice, Jimmy Harrell the lead engineer grumbled, “Well, I guess that’s what we have those ‘pinchers’ for” (final fail safe)

The pinchers didn’t work. Just because our Obama is making a complete a$$ of himself relating to oil production (everything else) and the cleanup doesn’t absolves BP of wrong doing. It doesn’t always have to be an either or proposition.

If BP didn’t take shortcuts and ignore safety advice we would not be in such a mess. BP has given King Obama an excuse to further push his radical agenda.

Haa, haa... BP lobbyists have spent $30 million to influence legislation and doubled their contributions to Democrats. This certainly doesn’t make them saints. There are shades of gray in this world. Being for less regulation, less government, less taxes, etc... doesn’t mean that big business is on the right hand of God.

Every time a politician accepts an illegal junket, bribe, shady business transaction, shady lobbyists contributions, free home, and list goes on and on... whose fault is it? The politician, business that sponsor / offered it, or both? Big business is in bed with big government and when they screw up they need to be called out.

Name any big company that hasn’t.

Ooooo, corporations are evil.

Ooooo, sorry you’re right, they are saints and should be worshiped.

You can’t have it both ways. Corporations that bribe corrupt politicians and influence policy to the determent of a happy, healthy America do contain a bit of evil. And just because everyone is doing it, doesn’t make it right.

Corporate America built this country and is a great force for good. But we shouldn’t turn a blind eye to its faults and / or its financing of our corrupt political system.

Personally, I’m not going to say that anyone is evil.
You’re more than welcome to do so. If that well had been successful, we would be singing their praises.

I like having a job, I like being able to buy products, I support those who provide both.

If you don’t like BP, don’t buy from them. I don’t.
