Mom Shoots Neighbor's Dog After it Attacks Daughter

LAKE FOREST -- A woman in Lake Forest shot her neighbor's dog after the animal attacked her 6-year-old daughter, authorities said.

The attack happened just after 10:30 a.m. Wednesday ...

A 14-year-old boy heard screams and saw a brown and white boxer grab his 6-year-old sister's shoulder while she was playing on the driveway with her 3-year-old sister.

The boy ran to the driveway and tried to pull his sister away from the animal, but the dog then bit the girl seven times on the leg, head, shoulder and face, authorities said.

The girl's mother, Jennifer Cooper, was on the porch with her 1-year-old child and saw the dog bite her daughter. She said she tried to get the children in the house and scare the dog away.

She told police the dog tried to lunge at the youngest child, and she then went inside the home, got a Glock pistol and shot the dog in the throat.

"It could have been much worse," Cooper told KTLA. "I could be at the E.R. right now with a child that's been severely mauled or even dead."

Give me ambiguity, or give me something else.

We have had a chihuahua for almost 6 months now... and bassets... the chihuahua is the fiercest of the bunch. We spend more time “controlling” him than the others.

Everyone’s nightmare...to be stalked and attacked by a Dobermann in their own home!

Luckily, a counter-measure exists.

Oh, good.

More “dog poisoners” on FR.

This place sure does attract a lot of gutless cowards.

I’m doomed.

I have no kittens to save me.

I have a few spares.
They like dogs, too.

Awww..looks like my “Ginger” who passed a year ago-I miss her terribly. Best dog I ever had, she did kill a possum once lightening fast-I was surprised.

Chihuahuas really do have the most amazing personalities! We got that white one from the pound when he was about eight months old, and he had been raised as someone’s obnoxious, yappy little lap dog...I don’t think they even let him outside, because he wasn’t housetrained and he had almost no fur! His underside looked like a bald, pink chicken carcass.
He’s since developed into a fluffy, very independent little guy who still is only marginally housetrained. We love him though, he has the heart of a lion, the ego of Napoleon, and a penchant for stealing everyone’s left shoe. Doesn’t chew them up, just takes them away and hides them. Such a wierdo.

There must be something about the small dogs not housetraining well. This guy was a rescue. My daughter had been pestering me forever to get one, so we went to Denver where they had brought in a whole bunch of chihuahuas from LA. We didn’t get to visit any of them because they had kennel cough, and we had 3 dogs at home, one with lymphoma nearing the end of his life, and a new basset pup on the way in a couple of days...

But this guy was a healthy, six year old chihuahua, that had been relinquished by his “family.” They said they gave him up because he wasn’t housetrained, they kept him in a kennel 22 hours a day... just too hard to handle. The guy showing him to us said he thought it was the first time he had seen a dog happy to be at the shelter. Needless to say, he has never been kenneled/crated since. He is still messes in the house periodically, but they are such small messes. He always tries to hit the pads or the bathroom. But with the other dogs, he does like to go out the dog door and be in the yard.

It’s sad how easily people give them up, even the little cute ones. Zero’s family listed their official cause as ‘allergies’, but I bet it was because he was a certified pain-in-the-ass, and who’s fault was that?
I’m so glad you had room in your home for the little guy; I can’t imagine giving up a dog after six years.

My dogs like cats too....but not in a good way.

I *tried* to have a Siamese, once.

The Ibizans kept her pinned under a sofa for 3 days.

She had to eat, drink, sleep and use her litter box under there and I couldn’t bear it.

So, with much sadness, [she was really a sweet cat] I took her back to her breeder.

[In Ibizan-speak, “cat” = “fast food”]

:-(
