BOCA RATON, Fla.- A Florida middle school is banning novelty rubber band bracelets due to disruptions and safety concerns, the principal said in an e-mail.
Principal P.J. D'Aoust of Omni Middle School in Boca Raton sent an e-mail to parents saying the bracelets, sold under the names Silly Bandz, Crazy Bandz and Zanybandz, will be confiscated starting Wednesday if students bring them to school, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reported Wednesday.
"These novelty items have created a disturbance on campus and have also become a safety concern in a number of ways," D'Aoust wrote of the colorful, uniquely shaped rubber bands.
The principal said students have been spotted putting the rubber bands around their necks, snapping other students and "using them as projectiles and stingers."
They forgot to mention that babies find them and chew on them. I’ll be thrilled when this fad passes.
“Put that bracelet down, kid, you’ll put your eye out.”
Then they came for the novelty bracelets...
These were huge at our school too until the principal banned them, for which I was thankful. One too many kids were getting shot in the eye with the bracelets. It’s amazing what kids can turn into a trend. Rubber bands—who would have thought it? LOL
At least they’re cheaper than Webkinz.
Lol! Amen.
they’ve banned them here in st Augustine and good for them my 3 kids said they are annoying and many kids just want to run around and talk about them all day
“Get that bracelet out of your ear! You don’t know where that bracelet has been!”
I throw them away when I find them around the house, but they’re so cheap that more keep turning up.
I’m glad they banned too, even my kids are happy about them and said they’re stupid to have
thankfully my kids don’t like them, ages are 7, 9 and 12.
My little girls are 10 and 12. They’re getting them from friends in the neighborhood or at gymnastics.
"You'll Shoot Your Eye Out....You'll Shoot Your Eye Out....AH HA HA HA HA!"
I remember when they banned these things in the early 70's. You could put a serious hurt on somebody with 'em.
All the CRAP that’s coming out of Gov’t schools and this is what we’re worried about !?
WE TRULY GET WHAT WE DESERVE
$25 a pop, and my kids would never let me hear the end of it unless I bought them the very latest one.
Then six months later we’re selling them at a garage sale.
yea my kids said that there are a few kids swapping them and giving them away
