COURTESY OF PENNSYLVANIA GAME COMMISSION Game Commission Supervisor Peter Sussenbach is shown with a 707-pound black bear bagged by Bear Creek Township resident Charles Olson Jr. in Noxen Township. Olson is accused of baiting the bear with pastries, which is illegal in Pennsylvania.

Thats a nice looking black bear. In a couple weeks, I’ll be out hunting them, and a year from now heading down to Kodiak to fill the brown bear tag I got drawn for.

... unlawfully killing the bear by luring him with a pile of pastries.... it's illegal to put out bait so the bear will be stationary when killed. That's why you can't shout "whiplash" or "free Scotch" when hunting attorneys.

Charles Olsen Jr., 39, of Wilkes-Barre, was ordered Thursday by District Judge Carl Smith to pay $1,500 after he found him guilty of unlawfully killing the bear by luring him with a pile of pastries. Olsen was also fined $300 for a charge of hunting over bait Hey, BooBoo, someone left a pickinick basket full of pastries.
Is the difference between the $300 fine and the $1500 fine just the difference between hunting and actually killing the bear?

Now if we could just start hitting politicians with these fines for bagging voters by baiting them with free government “pastries”.

It’s time to go home from work for the weekend when you SEE the word “pastries” and think the word “tourists”.
It’s been a tough week.

Jail terms are generally served consecutively but fines
“government revenues” are always paid in total amount!

I am all for hunting.....the right way. Baiting, poaching or killing for horns is wrong and not sportsman-like. He should have his hunting privileges permanently revoked.
