WILKES-BARRE, Pa., - A Pennsylvania man was fined $6,800 for illegally killing a 707-pound bear during last year's hunting season.
Charles Olsen Jr., 39, of Wilkes-Barre, was ordered Thursday by District Judge Carl Smith to pay $1,500 after he found him guilty of unlawfully killing the bear by luring him with a pile of pastries. Olsen was also fined $300 for a charge of hunting over bait and ordered to pay $5,000 restitution because the bear was "trophy-class," or over 350 pounds field dressed, the Wilkes-Barre Times-Leader reported Friday.
Under Pennsylvania Game Commission regulations it's illegal to put out bait so the bear will be stationary when killed.
The Pennsylvania Game Commission said Olsen will also likely lose his hunting and trapping privileges for at least three years.
Officials said Olsen pleaded guilty to the charges.

I share some for sure. Hopefully they’ll include me with a nice 10’ + brownie too!!
Give me a break....there are hunting laws which must be abided.
Anyone who defends this clown is clueless.
One of the arguements for baiting is to draw in a lot of animals in hopes of finding one this size, or one of a specific color. It was outlawed in Oregon, along with hound hunting of bear and cougar, by a media blitz from PETA, et al. Now we're up to our asses in problem cougars and bears.
