Beijing officials hope spraying perfume from 100 high-pressure nozzles around a major landfill can temporarily end complaints about the stink.
City officials also promise to cover the Asuwei dump with more layers of plastic, The Guardian reports. People living near the landfill say the smell is almost unbearable when the wind is blowing from the dump.
Getting rid of the trash generated by China's growing economy and prosperity is a difficult problem, especially in Beijing, where 17 million people live. Photographer Wang Jiuliang has spent a year taking pictures of the 200 landfills circling the city in what he calls "Beijing's seventh ring."
"People are forced to use these places for dumps and landfills. There is no better place," he says. "China has become a consumer society over the past 10 or 20 years. The authorities are working hard to solve the garbage problem, but it has emerged too quickly."
lol
They should cover it and use pumping to put it under negative pressure. As a bonus they could harvest a goodly amount of methane that way.
Where you at bro?
Chinese parents will soon tell their children not to be so wasteful because people in America are doing without food and medicine.
what?
In reference to europeans that don’t bathe.... just cover themselves with gallons of perfume. The same ###holes, cheering the socialist demise of the US while they live in the comfort and security of our military shadow...... you know eurotrash.
