Does acetone help with gas mileage or hurt your vehicle? And what is a proper ratio of acetone to gas, 2 oz. to five gallons?

It’s a story that’s gone round the Internet a while.
Tried that once in an old van I had.
No help in gas mileage.
Blew a head gasket not long after.
Course, it was old to begin with but I haven’t tried it since and don’t recommend that you do.
MPG was within the CAFE standards for that car. I didn't realize the tremendous gains some were claiming.
It’s almost as bad as ethanol.
If you want to clean your engine from the inside use a commerical product for cleaning fuel injectors, available at auto parts store, like STP, or Gunk. Most people I know don't use these types of things routinely. If your car has sat for a long time they can be useful.
The time you take to remove nail polish is time spent not driving = Less gasoline burned.

Acetone generally holds a fair amount of water. Don’t know what the octane rating would be either.
Yes, it’ll destroy components of your engine, causing your gas mileage to increase to infinity.
I’m not an expert, but certain chemicals could advance the breakdown of gaskets, seals, etc.. Fuel economy here is secondary to the potential damage done to the engine components.
I would be a good way to burn up your engine.
Depends on how gummed up your injectors are prior to adding in the acetone. But a high quality alcohol would do just as well.

Modern gasolines are carefully formulated for today’s engines. You do not need to add anything to them and can seriously damage engine components (oxygen sensors, etc.) if you do. Acetone is used in fuel cleaners but it just doesn’t make sense to buy it for a mileage booster.
Only a jerk would suggest you put sugar in your gas tank.
Measure twice, cut once.

Don’t know about acetone, but I’ve heard of people using toluene for fuel. Higher octane rating than gasoline. But the exhaust would probably the equivalent of sniffing modeling glue.
