Another year, another reason to raise bloody hell over who didn't get into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and who did. Tonight, a fresh class of five historic names will march into the coveted main hall: ABBA, Jimmy Cliff, Genesis, the Hollies and the Stooges.

Ouch. Some deserved groups are not among the honored.

“Top 40 rejects: Why are none of these people in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame?”
Because they perform ACTUAL Rock and Roll rather than folk or “pop” garbage?

Which is probably why I'll never go to the R&R HOF, besides the obvious fact it's in Cleveland, of all places.
And the article is wrong--some of Rush's best stuff WAS during what they labeled that "first awful decade"; i.e., 2112, Fly By Night, and Moving Pictures.

Agreed.
Lots of GOOD rock acts are rejected just for being too popular. Metal and Prog-rock are all but ignored, as they aren’t respected by whiny critics.
Alice Cooper should have been in years ago, same for Ted Nugent.

Probably the same reason you and I are not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame: insufficient talent, appeal, and a** kissing.

I don't even like Kiss, but how could they not be in? They were cultural monsters and have been around for almost forty years!
Donovan and Dick Dale were also huge influences on the music.

I still can't understand how Rush gets left out of this every year. They've been together over 30 years, millions of albums sold, sell out arenas still to this day, and so on. Having said that, though, I'm not sure they should be in this especially with all of the non-rock groups and people who are in this!
To: ConservativeStatement
Fans may love these artists but, let's face it, they don't stand a chance: Grand Funk, Styx, Journey, Foreigner, the Moody Blues, Bon Jovi, Iron Maiden, Jethro Tull, Chicago. Why not? Jethro Tull is absolutely deserving, and why not the others? While Journey and Foreigner were a bit generic, they have their place - and Bon Jovi, by FAR the most popular of the "hair bands" (whether a true hair band is up for debate, I say no) should mean SOMETHING to those uppity jerks at the HOF.

Ted’s too conservative, as is Alice.
Gotta be able to spice up the biographies of the honorees (or orneries) with how they (ZOT) their (ZOT) when they were at the (ZOT) in order to (ZOT).

I didn’t know Chicago was not in. Based upon that, the R&R HOH is not a legitimate entity. Not my favorite Chicago tune, but 25 or 6 to 4 ALONE puts them in.

Very 70s heavy list and very light on “rock and roll” as a pure art form (disco, soul, rap, yes but not rock and roll; hell the Black Eyed Fleas looped Dick Dale’s Miserlou, that right there ought to clinch his nomination...).
I expect most of these names to get in the hall before The Seeds, The Stray Cats, Johnny Burnette Trio (who influenced the Yardbirds and others), Link Wray, Sun Ra, The Fleshtones, Iron Maiden...

Alice Was AWESOME. Yeah she was repulsive when repulsive wasn’t cool. I caught her once at the Hollywood Sportatorium. The Amazing James Randi toured with her/it helping out with Special Fx like the Guillotine Trick. I think Alice defined pandemonium. But the music still holds together nicely. Some of it.
