What a coincident. I'm in the process of reading his book: "Highest Duty".

Captain Sully is a good American. We haven't seen the last of him.

"Quite frankly, prior to Jan. 15, 2009, I was planning to work for the rest of my life. And I'm still not retiring from work. I'm retiring from the airline so I can use my time on other issues of great importance of this moment," he said.

Hmmmm, wonder what he means by that last statement...??

Why would he want to do that? And ruin his own reputation? If I were his PR agent, I’d have him steer clear of politics. If he has his own political ambitions, there is a right time for that. He’s going to be a multi-millionaire just be accepting positions on corporate boards of directors. Not knowing anything about the private side of the man ...I’d question your question. ;-)

He ought to RUN for office! I’m glad that he went back and flew that route a few times. Gettin’ back on the horse, you know.

He lives in Danville, the most conservative city in the entire SF Bay Area, which means it’s about 50-50 GOP/Dem, LOL.

I would think that the aftermath of the whole incident was very distracting to his job.

I was wondering if he wasn’t going to pop up as an “aviation expert” contributor to Fox News, or something like that. But his statement sounds like he’s got something else in the works. Curious.

I love it. I’ve never seen anything like it in real life.

Go Sully!

Absolutely.

'US Airways had planned a ceremony to commemorate the retirement, but those plans were scuttled. Instead, Sullenberger met briefly with reporters and joined fellow pilots in the airport crew room. "He said 'I don't want the hoopla, I want to go out like every other pilot," said US Airline Pilots Association spokesman James Ray.'

'Ray said Sullenberger will speak Wednesday to a medical group in Atlanta, on the subject of bringing the best parts of airline safety culture to the medical profession. "He will speak about resource management techniques -- tracking errors, having safety checklists and getting others to speak up rather than just the head surgeon," Ray said. "In this industry, it used to be the captain was God and the first officer would not speak up, but that has changed."

And the fact that he wanted to go out quietly, shows he is classy guy.
