The new logo for America’s Missile Defense system is causing a stir among many, who view it as a graphic mash-up of Barack Obama’s election-campaign logo and the symbol for Islam.
The new logo, created by the design company TMP Government, is featured prominently on the US Missile Defense website and on the agency’s letterheads.
The uncanny similarities to Obama’s election-year logo and the star-and-crescent of Islam were first noted by blogger Weaselzippers and was soon picked up by mainstream news outlets like FOX News and The Washington Times.
The new logo design subconsciously ties together concerns over increasing government takeover of the American economy, Obama’s ties to Islam and his natural born citizen status, and mounting troubles in the Middle East regarding Iranian development of nuclear technology.

As a logo designer myself, I think it’s pretty cool. I don’t really get the whole Øbama/Islam thing, but I can see how some might.

It’s pretty clear that the logo comprises the Islamic crescent and zerobama stripes from the campaign logo. It bears no relation to earlier logos of the MDA.
TMP Government, which designed the logo, is owned by TMP Worldwide, which also owns the job site “Monster.com.”
