THE UNITED STATES ICE HOCKEY TEAM HAS DEFEATED CANADA 5-3!!
Russia will have a big say in who wins the gold medal. I like their chances.
He did just point out, though, that this is the first time the US has beaten Canada in Olympic Hockey since 1960 in Squaw Valley. I was not aware of that....
Thanks for the headline. NOW I DON’T HAVE TO WATCH MY DVR RECORDING!!!
Watch it. One of the great team USA performances of all time.
Maybe some of us are used to Freepers having the courtesy to use a spoiler alert and not give away the results in the headline while we are just interested in reading general news items during down time at work.
And don’t forget that the USA is coached by the Leafs coach.
Blame Canada
Blame Canada
2 of their PP Goals were on total dives...weenies.
There are no fights in international hockey. Instant match penalty and suspension next game.
NBC did blow it, but it is more disappointing for hockey in general that they did not showcase the game for everyone to see. Great hockey.
Well...the Canadian WOMEN’S hockey team is still undefeated.
But, come to think of it...so are the American Women
Yes I know Canada had twice the number of shots but 19 of their 45 shots came in the third period. So many of Canada’s shots were so wide of the net it kinda made the shot advantage misleading. I remember saying to myself during the game that I haven’t heard Iginla’s name in awhile and there was one point late in the game where they noted the Crosby only had one shot. I just thought the intensity of the D by the USA players was impressive. But 3 stars to Miller.
I'm sure Costas enjoyed watching the ice dancing.
You've been here since 1998.
This has been a battle that has been going on in FR for at least that long.
The winter/summer Olympics, The Sopranos, American Idol, Emmys, Oscars and any other myriad of taped delayed events.
It's quite obvious that if it is so important to someone to not know the results of any given live event then one should not log onto FR.
I've seen FReepers complain about being made aware of info in advance of their want because they had it recorded on a DVR and had the intention to watch it later in the week.
At what point in time after the fact is it safe to place pertinent info in the header of a post?
I read that the winner of the Canada Germany game will play Russia in the Quarters. That means either Canada or Russian will not medal right? At least one country is going to be really pissed off.
A fair question. However, I just don’t see any downside to simply posting a generic headline like “USA-CANADA HOCKEY RESULTS” and saving the details for the thread. Even though the content of the posts will appear on my screen, I can scroll through without reading the smaller text easily enough, and have done so many times on spoiler alert items. But when it’s blasted as a headline, it’s next to impossible to not see. If it had at least only announced that the USA won, but not the actual score, there would have been some suspense left in watching the recorded game.
Attempted shots that do not hit the goalie or the back of the net do not count as shots. Canada probably attempted 70 shots or more.
I have given up expecting to not find current/up to date info on FR. (I mean, really..........that's why we're here, right?)
Again, if it is that important, stay off of FR.
I wish it weren't that way, but it is what it is.
The first time since US beat Canada in Olympic Hockey since Squaw Valley in 1960. Granted they haven’t played each other in the Olympics since then but still it’s 50 years.
They will probably have to repeat the feat to win the Gold Medal, great game and the Canadians had many chances to knot the game at 4. Still no game beats the 1980 Lake Placid Miracle with our ameteurs beating the Soviets who most years back then would have had a good chance to win the Stanley Cup.
USA! USA! USA!
Actually, that’s assuming Russia is the #3 seed, which isn’t necessarily going to be the case. If Sweden beats Finland in overtime tonight, then Finland will become the #3 seed on the strength of the goal-differential tiebreaker.
The good news is that if the Sweden-Finland game goes into overtime at all, or if Sweden beats Finland in regulation by 4 goals or less, then USA will be the #1 seed and will play the winner of Switzerland-Belarus. If Finland wins in regulation or if Sweden wins in regulation by 6 goals or more, then USA will be the #2 seed and will play the winner of Slovakia-Norway.
If Sweden wins by 5 goals, then it goes to the next tiebreaker. Regardless, I really want the #1 seed because I’d rather play Switzerland again than Slovakia, honestly.
