A three-legged pitbull mix that played in a game of doggie baseball has won "Best in Show" at a talent competition held by one of New York City's largest animal shelters.
Nine dogs competed in Friday's contest at the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. But it was Prince who impressed the judging panel the most with his feat of catching three baseballs.
The nearly two-year-old dog lost one of his legs and had a pin inserted in another after being struck by a car.
The ASPCA's senior vice president of the adoption centre says Prince's disability doesn't hold him back.
Gail Buchwald says he "struts his stuff like a winner."

This marks a clear step forward towards post-dog-amputee-discriminational America. Makes me proud.
Maybe one day he’ll be president.

Three legs, one ear, one eye, recently neutered. Answers to the name of ‘Lucky’.
I’ve seen a number of them, one gets a daily walk in the neighborhood.

A neighbor of mine had a three legged retriever. Said a farmer blew off his right rear leg with a shotgun for scaring his chickens. That dog could really get around on three legs.

Shortly after getting married we had the minister and his wife over for tea or whiskey more likely.
The black lab adopted an immediate, inappropriate affection for the minister's foot and couldn't be dissuaded or distracted from his ardor. Much to the amusement of all present.
Had the dog lacked forequarters it probably would have been more creepy than amusing. The stuff of nightmares...
Some years ago I recall seeing a TV clip about a two-legged dog that could run to beat the band. The catch is that the two lost legs were the front right and rear right. In other words, the dog had lost both legs on the right side.
Seeing this dog run was an amazing sight.

Many times. It is not a genetic condition, but usually and environmental one. Too many cars and too many free ranging dogs, or barbed wire fences and free ranging rural dogs.
Dogs, like humans, sometimes require amputations in order to live out natural lifespans. Neither dogs or humans are rendered unfit as a result.
A man noticed a guy walking with three-legged dog on a leash. It looked very odd. He said, “hey, why are you walking a three-legged dog?”
“Why, stranger, this is no ordinary dog,” the man replied. “One night our house caught on fire, and before my wife and I even woke up, the dog had called the fire department, and got my baby out of the house. The next week, a burglar got into the house, and the dog had him tied up and the police were on their way before I even realized what had happened. Then just last week, I fell into the duck pond and was like to drown, except this dog jumped in and pulled me out. Like I say, this is no ordinary dog.”
“Well, that truly is a remarkable dog. But tell me, how did he come to have only three legs?” “Are you kidding? A dog this good, you don’t eat all at once.”
We don’t need another dog
Yes I have seen/known three legged dogs.
My daughter has a Rhodesian Ridgeback/ German Shepherd mix that caught the car he was chasing. He doesn’t know that he is any different. It’s getting harder the older he gets with the one front leg taking all the weight. And he is a BIG dog.
As a very young pup, she had fallen asleep under the rocker/glider and when a visitor sat down, her left front leg was cleanly amputated.
The vet dressed the wound, trimmed some ligaments and sewed it up.
She dragged herself around for a couple of weeks, then began to stand and was encouraged with treats, etc.
By the time she was about 8 months old, she was in the fields, flushing coveys and pointing singles.
That dog lived for 12 years, and most folks didn't even realize she had only three legs.
She loved to be in the fields and even in her last days, she made a valiant effort to get loaded and go, but she was just too old.
I remember she used to go through the open window of the Jeep to load or unload, which her owner permitted.
She flat refused to go into the box with the rest of the dogs.
Her owner felt like she deserved that consideration, at least.
I have one laying at my feet. A lab/dalmatian mix. He is 10 years old, lost his leg at 3 yrs. Until this winter he has been active. This cold winter is hitting him hard. He could catch rabbits and raccoons until just recently. Losing a leg barely slows them down.
