Touching the Void by Joe Simpson
Into Thin Air by Jon Krakauer
The Endless Knot by Kurt Diemberger
Seven Years in Tibet by Heinrich Harrer
For fiction I have many that I like:
James Fenimore Cooper's Leather Stocking Tales:
The Deerslayer, The Last of the Mohicans, The Pathfinder, The Pioneers, and The Prairie.
The Sea Wolf by Jack London
For fiction there is a great trilogy from Matthew Bracken Who is Freeper "Travis McGee". They should be read in order since some characters and story lines carry through the series. Listed in order.
1. Enemies Foreign and Domestic
2. Domestic Enemies: The Reconquista
3. Foreign Enemies And Traitors
It’s a very long read, but I enjoyed Moby Dick enough to read it twice.
I have autographed copies of all three of Mr. Bracken’s books. Great books, the third was my favorite.
“Last of the Breed” by Louis L’Amour
“Lucifer’s Hammer” by Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle.
Non-fiction: Man-eaters of Kumaon by Jim Corbett (it’s an old one).
Fiction: anything by Rudyard Kipling.
Non-Fiction: Alive by Piers Paul Read
Fiction: The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas
“Captains Courageous”
I’ve given at least a dozen copies of this to 12-13 year old boys.
In order of my growing up:
Tom Swift Jr. series
John Christopher’s Tripods trilogy
Doc Savage series
Clive Cussler
I know but as a kid my favorite book series was “The Box Car Children”.
As a grodup, my favorite fiction is the daily news.
Gates of Fire - Pressfield. The move ‘300’ is based on it.
All the Zane Grey Novels.
Read them and re-read them as a kid.

Maybe someone can help me with an awesome book I read as a kid but can’t remember its name.
Science fiction. In the future they are waiting for some massive invasion to hit earth. Some sort of “watchers” walk around with carts that can send out an alarm. Over time no invasion comes and people begin to doubt if it was ever a real threat. One of the last cart/alarm guys is getting old and one day sends out an alarm which most if not all ignore. Invading ships are teardrop shaped.
Sadly thats all I can remember. I just remember it being an awesome book and feeling sorry for the guy who spent his whole life as a watcher only to doubted when he finally made the alarm.
I don’t have patience to watch (or catch up on) “24” but found that Vince Flynn’s novels are far better anyway. Similar characters, plots and themes. I’ve been through all but one of his novels(and there are a lot).
“The Lord of The Rings” by J.R.R. Tolkien
Non Fiction adventure is the best, because it reminds you of what men and women(and YOU) can do when they refuse to give up.
“Clear the Bridge” and “Wahoo” by O’Kane WWII submarines
“God is my co-pilot”, “I could never be so lucky again”, “The Day I owned the sky”
“North” by Shakelton
“Shakelton’s Boat Journy” by his first mate.
“My early Life” by Churchill
The “Old Shatterhand” westerns by Karl May.
“Winnetou” is a classic; never understood why that wasn’t made into a movie.
Another good one:
Silmarillian
The Hobbit is like D-DAY
Lord of the Rings is like all of WW2
The Sil is like “In the beginning, God created... all the way to modern times.
