GOP Has Boxer In Sights

"Emboldened Republicans have trio of candidates set to vie for Senate seat"

After pulling off a Massachusetts miracle, Republicans are plotting a California coup.

Massachusetts Republican Scott Brown's improbable victory in a special election for the Senate seat liberal icon Ted Kennedy held for nearly 50 years has convinced national GOP leaders they are riding a tidal wave of voter dissatisfaction that could help them take down one of their prime targets, Democratic Sen. Barbara Boxer.

If a Republican can win in a liberal "blue" state like Massachusetts, the thinking goes, it can happen anywhere. And by anywhere, they mean California.

"Massachusetts voters clearly sent a message to the nation that they expect accountability from their leaders in Washington, and unfortunately, Barbara Boxer's record is not in touch with what the voters in California are looking for," said Amber Wilkerson Marchand, spokeswoman for the National Republican Senatorial Committee.

Democrats write off such commentary as postelection bravado and say they are confident voters will give Boxer a fourth term come November.

"We have no doubt that she will keep that seat," said Deirdre Murphy, spokeswoman for the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee.

For her part, Boxer said she is gearing up for a tough race. Her campaign already has $7.2 million in the bank, the most she has ever had at this stage of a re-election battle.

"Every one of my races has been really, really hard," Boxer told reporters last week in the U.S. Capitol.

Campbell, Fiorina and DeVore bring a strong contingent of Republicans who could very well unseat Boxer.

Every one of my races has been really, really hard,” Boxer told reporters....

A conservative would not defeat Boxer in California. Sad but true. California makes Massachusetts seem like a swing state.

I don’t believe that conservatives live in Pelosi’s district. The only hope is for someone less disgusting from the left were to defeat her in the primaries.

I truly see Boxer being unseated in the 2010 mid-terms!

I like Fiorina because:

1. I believe a woman is more likely to defeat Boxer. Boxers base is women's libbers and Carly is a successful woman so she can take some of that vote.

2. Fiorina is not a politician, shes a business person and we need more of that in Washington.

I’m with you on that aspect. We need more “people” on Capital Hill and a few less professional politicians.

Boxer’s constuents are so completely removed from reality that, even if her head opened up and bats flew out, they’d still vote for her. Marijuana does that to people.

Pelosi's district is one of the most true-believing heavily Marxist districts in the nation. A Republican of any stripe can barely get to 10-15% of the vote there. Pelosi is considered right-wing by San Francisco standards. The last Republican to win the House district was in 1948, and it was a far different place then.

We need successful businesspeople, not failed liberals like Fiorina.

That carries a double-edged sword for me, since several family members live there and in the East Bay, including the newest member of my family, a baby girl who was just born on Sunday in San Francisco.

We can only hope this area sees the light on Pelosi one of these days. What more do they need to know?
