Hollywood actress Brittany Murphy has died in Los Angeles.

Murphy died at 10.04am on Sunday, Cedars-Sinai Medical Centre Spokeswoman Sally Stewart said.
She would not provide a cause of death, or any other information.
Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Devon Gale says crews responded to a call at 8am on Sunday from a home in Los Angeles that is listed as belonging to British screenwriter Simon Monjack, who is married to Murphy.
TMZ claims Murphy's mother discovered the actress unconscious in the shower.
She was rushed to the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center but pronounced dead on arrival.
Murphy was born in Atlanta and began acting as a young teenager in a series of television appearances.
Her breakthrough role was in the 1995 teen hit Clueless alongside Alicia Silverstone.
She went on to appear in critically acclaimed films including 8 Mile opposite rap star Eminem and the comic book adaption Sin City.
Murphy also provided the voice for Luanne Platter in long-running animated television series King of the Hill and Gloria the penguin in box office smash Happy Feet.
In 2002, she had a brief relationship with Ashton Kutcher after filming comedy Just Married together.
She married British screenwriter Monjack in 2007.
The comedian Tom Green who was married to actress Drew Barrymore tweeted; "RIP Brittany Murphy - She was always very nice to me, my friends, and family. Nicer than most. And a real funny gal."
Sorry, but I have never heard of her.

I had never heard of her before she died. Maybe she's a big deal to other FReepers, but a simple search would reveal that similar notice has been posted before.

That was my first reaction as well. Sorry for her family, but it just goes to demonstrate the increasing irrelevance of the new, small-h-hollywood.

Me either...never heard of her. But I’m stuned :) as to why this is front page news.
Saw her on Letterman years back after she had toured with the USO and she was in awe of our brave troops and all that they do..
Someone on another thread posted the following about her:~

“I’ve been on two USO tours already. One was in the States and another was in Iraq, and I can’t say where we are going if I go.” As for her experience with the nonprofit organization, which aims to boost the morale of U.S. troops, Murphy says, “I will always be involved in the USO. Once you go over it’s a part of you forever. It’s nice being a friendly face from home.”
In fact, she has a personal connection to the USO: “I come from a military family – the Marine Corps,” she says. “I have a bunch of family members in the Marines.”

Well it sounds like her career in movies was spiraling out of control in the last several years. The woman had a promising career between 95 and 2003. She was a up and coming star. Somewhere I read she might have been a closet Conservative, but over the years she started dabbling in drugs and the fame got to her. She got fired off a movie recently.
RIP Brittany Murphy.
