Cop's Two Shots Kill Small Dog

By Nicholas Briano

Police fatally shot a small pug dog in the head last week while responding to a call on a quiet Edgemere block, telling superiors that the dog attacked them outside its Beach 43 Street home.

The incident began at 5:33 a.m. last Thursday, October 26, when Patricia Fernandez, who was already awake and getting ready for work, heard shots fired outside her home located on a quiet deadend street.

According to police sources, patrol cars had responded to the house next door on a child endangerment call.

Prior to the cop's arrival at the home next door, Fernandez's daughter-in-law let their 10-year-old pug, named Frank by the family, outside through the backyard at about 5:25 a.m., something they do with regularity. But with the dog off the leash, and police responding to the child endangerment call next door, Frank, weighing no more than 20 pounds, ran along the side of the house toward the police cars and was shot once in the eye and once in the jaw by an unidentified police officer from the 101 precinct.

For goodness sakes.

Chet, I saw a story earlier this week where a cop shot and killed a K9 dog that attacked him. Have you seen or posted that one yet?

Now most police departments wear black or subdued militaristic uniforms with baseball caps and patches almost identical to various military uniforms. Are you talking about SWAT teams, or regular uniformed police? If the latter, it requires documentation.

You should not have difficulty understanding that when a small local jurisdiction has a SWAT team but only a few valid events per year that require their special tactics, the department is compelled to rotate SWAT officers into the normal patrol schedule in order to see a return on the training, equipping and overhead costs. This is happens across the country. Furthermore, when massively excessive Federal military like support is thrown at local Police Departments they naturally begin to militarize.

My local Police department on a regular drunk driving stop.

Notice the combat boots with trousers tucked and bloused.

You need tp be aware that many people do not share this opinion.

We have a special word for people of this type: wrong. (Actually I have other words, but most would be trouble if typed here. . .)

This article, and the postings on this thread, DO point out a problem, maybe THE major problem. Many officers are becoming estranged from the people they serve. Of the many reasons for this, perhaps the ugliest is that too many people have chosen to hate, lie about, belittle, and think the worst of, ALL police.

That's because the police have worked very hard to foster such a situation. . . and the vast majority of charges levied against them are not lies.

If you had said THIS, in the first place, I would have said that I agree that these officers SHOULD be wearing standard patrol uniforms, for various reasons.

SOME police MAY well be acring in such a way.

>>”and the vast majority of charges levied against them are not lies.”

How could anybody refute THAT? Since neither of us knows either what “the vast majority of charges...” actually ARE, NOR do we know anything about the particular cases which engendered those “charges.” What we have left, is prejudice (pre-judging) bigotry, and animosity against a large and diverse grouping of people, the vast majority of which you know NOTHING about. This unreasoned antipathy is what shows through clearly in the postings I copied from this thread.

The one thing I will NEVER do any more is take a cop’s word in a pet shooting unless the cop can show that his fingers, an arm, or at least half his face have been taken off by that specific animal. With pictures and affidavits from NON-cop witnesses. Too many of these junior G-men seem to get off on killing dogs, primarily, it seems, as a means of intimidation of whose ever door they are kicking down. Though sometimes, as in this case, the neighbor’s dog will do in a pinch.

That last would sure be a day-brightening story, unlike hearing that cloture was just voted on ObambiCare in the Senate.

SOME police MAY well be acring in such a way.

No, virtually all of them are.

There are the a-hole cops who actually perpetrate these types of hideous, cowardly acts and there are the apologist cops who pretend that there is nothing wrong with the acts, who claim that the cops were just "following procedure" and other such malarkey.

Both types foster a cops against the world attitude and both kinds are responsible for the disrespect that the police have rightfully earned.

The charges of abuse, excessive force, corruption, contempt for the citizens, contempt for the law. But you already knew that. . .

There is little diversity amongst cops where it counts. They are almost all willing to protect their own even in the face of astounding misdeeds.

When a cop does wrong the thin blue line invariably becomes the thick blue wall.

Much like a pollster can draw reasonable conclusions from a smallish sample I can draw a very accurate picture of American police today from the fairly large sample of incidents documented here and elsewhere.

The picture is far from pretty.

Not all cops are violent jerks all of the time but enough of them are violent jerks enough of the time (and the violent jerks will almost always be protected from the fallout from their behavior which, as it turns out, encourages their behavior) that no cop can be reasonably trusted in any given situation.

This is something the police have brought about themselves by harboring people like the idiots in this article.

Sorry, but where do they find these A-holes?

From the bottom of the barrel obviously.

I’ve not ever seen a vicious Pug, but I’ll take the officer’s word on it

What? That's horrible ... If you second guess any member of our government, why not the same with members of the law enforcement community?

Why put so much blind trust into LEOs when there is no trust in "our" out of control government?

I believe our country is in the condition it is by placing blind trust in people ...
