I think House MD is roughly based on Holmes’ character. you know, i've never heard that... but now that you mention it, i would think so...

The Wikipedia Page for House has a whole section on similarities to Sherlock Holmes.

Its a pretty interesting comparison. I think the show’s originators specifically had Holmes in mind when they wrote House.
