Why? Because in my opinion, and in God's opinion, divorce is a sin. Ah, but there are times where one partner never intended to live up to the vows of marriage, therefore the marriage never truly existed.
In other words, annulment, and this appears to be the canonical case of it.

Annulment would benefit Tiger, so there won’t be one. Although the point that he never intended to live up to his wedding vows is well taken.

There is no “canonical case” for annulment. When one spouse has been unfaithful, the other is permitted to divorce, but that’s not the same as pretending they were never married.
