The only reason it could do that is a) It's a frigging >1:1 thrust/weight rocket. b) The horizontal stabilizers are not just elevators (they move like ailerons as well). And they are huge. Lifting body dynamics also play a role.

I love the F-15. Once upon a time, long, long ago, in a land called Holloman, I was an EagleKeeper.

The F-15 ruled the skies from the day she was put into operation (1974 +/-) until the day the F-22 was put into operation (2006 +/-) — a 30+ year run. They can talk about the Mig 29 until the cows come home, but the M29 was the F-15’s bitch from day 1.

There has never been a more beautiful or more effective milcraft ever. Even the F-22 uses electronic “tricks” (good ones, mind you) for a lot of its domination profile. The F-15 did it with superior design and execution. Her place in milcraft history is secure.

Not the first time this has happened. I remember seeing pics of an F15 in Germany (IIRC) that landed with the right wing outboard of the engine nacelle gone. This was at least 5 years ago.

McD can probably program a simulator to demonstrate the flight characteristics of a one winged Eagle.

MD said that it wasn’t possible to fly an F15 with one wing missing.

They have. Further, the ability to change flight control laws to adapt to changes in aircraft configuration was investigated back in 1993 or so, based on this event.

I figgured as much. I have seen many different types of aircraft fly and climb in knife edge flight. Flying an Eagle missing an outboard wing shouldn’t be much of a problem as long as the engines are working. It is just difficult accumulating the necessary flight time in that configuration to become proficient.

And the Warthog pilots are shaking their heads contemptuously at the drama queens in the hot jets.

I'm actually back in NM, up around Lost Wages Las Vegas. I'm getting plenty of green chili, but -18F hurts a Texas boy's feelings.
