Aspirin, Tylenol May Decrease Effectiveness of Vaccines

COLUMBIA, Mo. – With flu season in full swing and the threat of H1N1 looming, demand for vaccines is at an all-time high. Although those vaccines are expected to be effective, University of Missouri researchers have found further evidence that some over-the-counter drugs, such as aspirin and Tylenol, that inhibit certain enzymes could impact the effectiveness of vaccines.

“If you’re taking aspirin regularly, which many people do for cardiovascular treatment, or acetaminophen (Tylenol) for pain and fever and get a flu shot, there is a good chance that you won’t have a good antibody response,” said Charles Brown, associate professor of veterinary pathobiology

“…associate professor of veterinary pathobiology…”

This makes no sense on many levels…I question the truthfulness of such without a number of scientific studies and empirical evidence.

I tend to believe this because the effect of NSAIDs has come up before. This article speaks of further evidence of the effect.

Ok, I will go with that, how much deterioration in effectiveness, then what is to be done to correct the effect, why was this not taken into consideration to begin with, further, why is a professor of veterinary pathobiology bringing it up; this is why I am a bit critical on topic.

...why is a professor of veterinary pathobiology bringing it up...

His ewe died leaving him with spare time?

It may be because the tests to date have been done on animals with human tests to follow.

I posted this because it looks like something people should be aware of.

I believe this was a simple social experiment. We'll see legislation next....mandating shots if the government says so.

An interesting footnote...Seniors were not eligible for the shot. No one got upset about it...not even AARP...despite the FACT that the highest death rate for H1N1 is/was the over 65 group.

The formula came via the U of R and I've always considered it a secret, experimental lab.

Maybe in 50 years, the truth will come out...that PERHAPS half of these shots were placebos.

“His ewe died leaving him with spare time…”

Thanks, explains it all…although seems to be a cart before the horse template…

“…half of these shots were placebos.”

You are most likely correct, in that in 20 years the truth will come out; one female I have discussed this with believes this is the first of many Gov/medical situations where the plan is to at one end discard the elderly while beginning sterilization programs.
