There is a large contingent of fundamental Christians who are opposed to Mormonism and a similarly sized large contingent of liberals who are opposed to any strongly religious (except Islamists and environmental wackos) candidates who together will sink any such candidate.

I wouldn't call the "bigot brigade" a large contingent. They just stalk ANY Mormon thread and post a lot.
