I wonder how much a buy out Weis got. Supposedly he was owed, if my memory is right, $18 MM on his contract.

I never knew this, even though I grew up in the area, that Notre Dame doesn’t belong to a conference. Or is one of the last of such teams. So one of their draws for recruiting players is that Notre Dame is open to play any team, anywhere in the country. Like a pro team.

Problem for ND is the recruits have no solid memory of the glory years under Lou Holz. To them, ND’s been a lifetime of mediocrity under Bob Davies, Tyron Willingham and Charlie Weiss. Why should the next guy be any different?

notre dame will never be a national powerhouse for one reason: defense. as in, they don't have one.

how many ND defensive players have been drafted in the last 5 years?

you give a blue-chip linebacker the choice of USC or ND and see how fast they run to southern cali. oh wait, they won't get into ND anyway due to the academic requirements.

To be a successful college football coach, you need to spend 70% of your time recruiting and 30% coaching. For the pros you spend 80% of your time coaching and 20% handling personalities (good and bad) on your team and the owner. Two different management problems. Not surprised college coaches do poorly in the pros (i.e. Lou Holtz) and pro coaches do poorly in college (i.e., Charlie Weiss). One of the few that did it well in both was Jimmy Johnson. I talked to a lot of former “Landry” Cowboys who couldn’t stand Johnson. They described him as “Rah Rah”. When you look at what Johnson did was pretty much clean the stables in Dallas and start over with nothing but rookies (college players) who were probably still into the rah rah thing. Ultimately, Johnson failed to manage the owner and was gone. But he left with a ring and put the Cowboys on center stage for a decade. Not a bad resume. Mind you, this is a Redskins fan saying this.

Notre Dame has been cursed by a Higher Power for giving a prestigious award to Obama the Abortion Lover.

the team leadership committee was to meet Monday afternoon to vote on whether to accept a bowl bid if it is offered. It is unlikely Weis will coach the team in that game.

A 6-6 team who has lost their last 4 going to a bowl??

Some speculation in NFL blogs that Weiss will move south a few miles to Indianapolis as OC for the Colts. What a better way to rehab your coaching career than working with Manning?

I'm not surprised it happened.

If anyone has been listening to ESPN Radio's Colin Cowherd for the last eight weeks, he noted that between:

1) Notre Dame's high academic standards.
2) The middle of nowhere location of South Bend, IN.
3) Very cold winters.

It's small wonder why all the "blue chip" recruits are going to USC, Texas, and the SEC schools.
