FReeper “melancholy” had asked that I post the photos he took of the 912 March on DC.

Due to time constraints and a few computer problems they were not ready to post until now. My hope had been to have them posted by yesterday in celebration of the three week anniversary of the March, but alas I failed. Guess now I will be inducted into the Obama Fail Club.

And now a word from the photographer extraordinaire: (only because he insisted and he’s the BOSS!)

“Justa,
My deep and profound appreciation fails to describe your hard work and sleepless nights to put this thread together. Thank you very much for helping a picture-posting, terribly challenged FReeper, moi!
I couldn’t have possibly shared my pictures with the wonderful FReepers on the best conservative forum in the world.
Thank you again.

melancholy, his DW and 2 friends drove to D.C. from New Jersey for the 912 March on DC. They were finally able to get to the march at 12:13 PM on 9-12-09.

melancholy snapped a few pics as they got their bearings.

As they hiked toward the Capitol the ladies got right into the spirit of the March.

They approached the Newseum at 6th and Pennsylvania Ave. at 12:20 and snapped this great close up of the outside wall. The second photo is one I snagged from someone somewhere on the net.

Melancholy and crew proceeded down the March route snapping pics as he went

All ages were present at the March -- from young children in strollers and older children walking to the elderly and handicapped both walking and in wheelchairs.

Photobucket

Around 12:30 they came across my favorite display at the March. These three guys were great about stopping and allowing folks to get their picture taken at the podium.

A couple of minutes later, thankfully, they were looking down … before seeing another great sign “honoring” our illustrious ENEMEDIA.

As our marchers continue toward the Capitol melancholy continued snapping photos.
The time of this pic is approximately 12:30-35. The March was not scheduled to begin until 11:30, but due to the size of the crowd, the police forced the March to begin at 10:00 AM. Nearly 3 hours after the start of the March, there are still folks making their way to the Capitol. 30-50,000 people sure do take a long time to walk a mile. HA!

Twenty minutes later, 12:51 pm, they arrived at a light post at the corner of 3rd Street and Jefferson Dr., if I’m not mistaken, where the next couple of hours were spent people watching and trying to find…well…me! LOL!
Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket

After a couple difficult to hear phone calls, melancholy informed me he simply could not find me as it was difficult to get through the throngs of people. Being a bit more familiar with the area I decided to try and find melancholy and company. I set off with my backpack, large sign on a large stick and Matchett-PI’s bag I was guarding as she ventured into the crowd. Thank God for Tolerance Sucks Rocks, without whom I may never have made it to melancholy and his gang. Kristinn happened by a few minutes later and we all had a great time.

Meanwhile, friend K independently chooses to recycle…no government nannys to demand it of her.

Please notice all the trash deposited neatly around the overflowing receptacle, while the lawn behind her is litter free!

Wish one of us had thought to take a few pictures with our own melancholy in them! D’OH!

The rally ended and everyone was getting tired and hungry so we parted company with Kristinn after he suggested The Pavilion Café located in the National Gallery of Art-Sculpture Garden at 7th and Constitution Ave. Somewhere along the way we lost Ali Veritas and daughter.

Once again, melancholy was snapping pictures as we made our way through the throngs of people still milling around the area.

Aren’t kids fun to watch? Not sure what they were examining, but they were adorable!

This was an excellent “set” of posters…sums it up just about right!

Photobucket A couple of rest stops later we arrived at the Entrance to the National Gallery of Art-Sculpture Garden.
Location Entrance to the National Gallery of Art-Sculpture Garden

We easily found the beautiful Pavilion Café, passing this little house which “turned” toward you as you walked by. There is a word for it, but I forget.

FReeper Matchett-PI and friend Richard caught up with us at the Café and we had a leisurely lunch and great conversation.

Not sure what Matchett was talking about, but it made for an interesting photo!

Buoyed by the sight of 1.75 MILLION like minded citizens and the making of new FRiends with whom we had been communicating with for years on FreeRepublic, we sadly parted company to go our own ways. Melancholy and company embarked on their long drive home, while Matchett-PI, Richard and I headed back to get ready for the convention while Tolerance Sucks Rocks vanished into the crowd. What an incredible experience! Many thanks to Jim Rob for giving us this special place to meet and form wonderful new FRiendships.

Thanks a lot for your help, Justa.

Jim,

I tried to find you in a sea of humanity but couldn’t search for long. I wanted to say hello as I promised but couldn’t get through the first wall of people.

Were they really 30,000? LOL!

LOL! C'mon. I saw more than one glaring screw up right away.

You are the one that did the work...taking the pictures.
So clear and sharp in spite of the cloudy day. Good job!

Thank you Sir/Ma’am.

We thought we should show the pictures to all FReepers who attended the 7-”Man” March. Justa, Tolerance sucks rock, kristinn and my party of four.

According to the Media, that is! LOL

Couldn’t get high up somewhere to photograph the sea of humaanity, but I’m sure there are hidden aereal photographs from newspapers, police choppers, etc..

Thanks EB. Were you there?

I didn't know that big body of water in front of the Capitol existed until I got home and saw the pics. Funny thing is...I was apparently just on the other side of it, before I went in search of melancholy, but couldn't see it for all the people!

As one person who was also there said, “It was like a big family picnic.” Well, without the food. Everyone was friendly to everyone else. No one in the groups I ended up walking with even asked your name, we just started talking like we’d known each other our whole lives. Mostly the signs or tee-shirts or State flags let you know where someone was from, but that didn’t really matter to the occasion.

It was . . . family. Calm, peaceful, fun, enjoyable . . . family gathering.

And the Capitol Police said “Thank YOU” to the group I was in as we returned to Union Station.

Next year will be better . . . but we’ll need to gather sooner and plan to leave Freedom Plaza at 8:30 or 9 AM, because I imagine there will be twice as many people. [Some of the people I rode on Amtrak back to BWI said that all the DC hotels were full and that they had to get rooms near BWI (Airport).] And I expect more Conservatives of color will join us next year, too. The ones that were there that I saw were having a great time, just chatting and talking and comparing notes. Everyone was so friendly and polite. It was a great experience. Bring the kids next year.

Yep, great faces without the trade mark of typical snarl that all liberals sport. They were comfortable in their skin, if I may say so.
