Is Congress trying to take the supplement DHEA off of store shelves, and make it prescription only? They tried to do this in 2007, and I've heard that a bill is present in Congress again, but my research isn't finding a definitive answer. And, if so, does anyone know the status of the bill and if it's likely to pass or be killed in committee?
What is DHEA?
Why do you take it?
I’m not a chemist/doctor, but it creates a natural level of steroid (a healthy steroid) in the body after the production of the substance starts to decline, about age 40 and later, a downhill path. Our bodies used to die much younger than they do now, and things like DHEA lessen as we age. Melatonin is another one, the real sleep “aide”, another substance that we (at least many people say) can augment as the years go by.
hormones
Dehydroepiandrosterone.
It is the basic chemical building block of all the steroid hormones in the body, including testosterone and estrogen.
Generic term ‘steroid’ had taken a beating in the news the last decade, but the difference between responsible use and teenagers building their bodies up Arnold-like is night and day. DHEA, taken correctly and in small doses, is, I believe, beneficial, but again I’m not a medical pro. Thank God. If I were I’d probably be forced to take the vacine.
Thank you allmost, this seems to answer my question. If passed, if I’m reading it correctly, it only restricts use to under 18, as you say. Another rumor found untrue. Freerepublic, a great resource and great posters. Thanks again.
I don’t think DHEA is anywheres near the metabolic steroids that athletes sometimes (mis)use. Those are generally injectable stuff.
I believe you are correct. There was a thread here yesterday about a congressional hearing, also held yesterday, concerning the banning of natural products that contain steroids. There was no age limit. I'll see if I can find it.

Actually, this bill may be aimed at something which doesn’t exist.
There’s really no evidence that DHEA abuse is widespread. It’s not very effective for performance enhancement...
Why do we need stupid bills that unnecessarily create new regulations.
If there are any men on here who started to become slightly depressed and maybe a little more emotional around the age of fifty, they should try supplementing with DHEA; 10-25 MG per day, 6 days a week. It helps restore testosterone levels a little and alleviates those symptoms. It is effective, but don’t expect to start feeling like you are 18 again.
Does it help with um...man boobs?
I don’t know about man-boobs, but a product called DIM is supposed to retard the conversion of testosterone into estrogen. That might help. Losing weight and toning the muscles couldn’t hurt either.
Thanks. Ill have to pass that info on to my boss. LOL!!!
Thanks. I took a look, and it looks to be in the very early stage with turncoat RINODINO Arlen Specter just trying to get some ink. I really hope he loses in the primary, and leaves with his tail between his legs.
