U.S. actor George Clooney plays a New Age hippie soldier trained for psychic, peaceful combat in a comedy set during the war in Iraq.

"The Men Who Stare at Goats" is based on a book by Jon Ronson about a secret unit created by the U.S. army in 1979 which, the author said, believed troops could become invisible, walk through walls and kill goats just by staring at them.

Ewan McGregor plays a reporter who stumbles across a member of the unit as he prepares to enter Iraq, and he and Clooney's character Lyn Cassady go on an ill-fated journey that sees them kidnapped, shot at and hit by a roadside bomb.

Jeff Bridges is a long-haired, drug-taking leader of the "New Earth Army," and Kevin Spacey completes the line-up as a rival to Cassady who ends up turning the unit into a lucrative private enterprise operating in Iraq during the war.

"What we love about this film and what's so fun about it is that there's a tremendous amount of it that's true," Clooney told reporters in Venice,

Good film. I rented that a while back.

Here's another good one. And Gregory Peck is far more attractive than Clooney could ever hope to be.

Isn’t Mr. Clooney getting a little old for movies like that? I can’t see him as a soldier since many of them tend to be young and cute.

I just can’t see what women see in him.

“Three Kings” had some pretty interesting stuff going on in that movie, tho...

Old George is getting awful long in the tooth for this role. Oh, he plays the goat?

I think Gregory Peck’s most attractive role was in ‘Captain Horatio Hornblower’. I love that film and Peck was dashing. Clooney couldn’t do ‘dashing’ if his life depended on it.

Never seen it myself, but I know it wasn’t a failure. Not a blockbuster but it paid its way. Clooney pocketed $5,000,000 for that one.

THREE KINGS

Production Budget: $75 million

Domestic: $60,652,036 56.3%
+ Foreign: $47,100,000 43.7%
= Worldwide: $107,752,036

Last time I watched a show all the way through with Clooney, he was Detective Falconer who was married to Sela Ward on the show “Sisters”. Personally I thought she should have chosen his rival Billionaire Simon. But Sela never listens.

Clooney's attempt to be "dashing".
