Friday night on South Beach got about as hot as it could get - literally and figuratively when the 2009 Miami Dolphins Cheerleaders took to the runway in the courtyard of Casa Casuarina, formerly the Versace Mansion, for a fashion show and the unveiling of the 2010 Miami Dolphins Cheerleaders Swimsuit Calendar.
Monica Mason, Johanna Torres, Amy Madill and Fabiola Romero graced the cover of the new calendar and none of them knew that until the cover was unfurled from the balcony above the courtyard as the energetic music was pumped through the sound system by special guest DJ and world-renowned singer/rapper and producer T-Pain. He also debuted his remixed version of the Miami Dolphins' fight song, with the cheerleaders performing a dance routine to it after sparkling the runway in body paint, masks and fringe swimwear ensembles styled by two aspiring designers on the cheerleading squad, Tiffany Pearl and Brittany Marlowe, who combined efforts to help design the featured looks.
The works of world-renowned and iconic artist Romero Britto were also included among the fashions featured on the runway as cheerleaders' served as the canvas for live art renditions of the South Florida based artist. There was a packed out of VIP guests on hand along with a large throng of print and television media and lots and lots of photographers. But the crowning moment of the night belonged to Amy, Monica, Johanna and Fabiola and there excitement was evident on their faces.
"I was unbelievably and happily shocked," said Amy, who hails from Orlando is in her second year on the squad. "We have beautiful squad of 41 girls who all take amazing pictures so I can't believe I was chosen. I'm so honored. I have never been down here to South Beach before so this is an eye-opening experience being from Orlando, but there is such a buzz and a vibe around the team that I hope will carry over into the season."
Emily Newton, the Cheerleading Coordinator, couldn't have been more thrilled with how the show went, saying it "trumped" all of hers and the squads hopes. She heaped a lot of praise on new owner Stephen M. Ross for continuing with all of his initiatives to create an exciting fan environment for the team, but she was thrilled for the four girls on the cover and for the whole squad.
"I am so excited for the girls on all the pages of the calendar," she said. "I've been looking at pictures for months and months and this one is a very special shot. It's got so much energy. The girls look beautiful and I was very happy to share with all the girls tonight."
New Dolphins CEO Mike Dee summed up the night best as T-Pain turned up the volume following the fashion show and calendar unveiling.
"I thought the show was great and it certainly has the energy that we wanted to create tonight," he said. "We had this show on South Beach and on Ocean Drive for a reason and it was nice to bring our brand down here."
