Shoppers Hit With Glue in Bizarre Attacks

Pasadena police are looking for a man who may be attacking women with superglue, or at least with a glue-like substance. His youngest victim was just 12 years old.

It happened to her while at a Walgreens on Spencer Highway near Burke Road. Hers is one of at least three attacks right in the area. The girl's reaction was loud as she shouted after the attack.

"'There's glue in my hair! That guy put glue in my hair,'" she recalled. "I tried to point him out so they could see who he was."

At the request of her parents, we are protecting the identity of the 12-year-old girl. She was at a Pasadena Walgreens on Spencer Highway last Thursday. The girl was with her grandparents, looking at greeting cards. That's when the suspect, whom she describes as an older teenager, walked next to her and squeezed a clear, sticky substance from a tube, aiming it at her hair.

The girl said, "I saw a glue bottle in his hand, so I got kind of nervous. I knew something was wrong, so I went to my grandparents. I noticed that a little piece of my hair was sticking to my shirt, and when I pulled it, this whole wad of glue came with my hair. I said, 'That guy put glue in my hair.'"

One section of the girl's long hair literally fell out, and another was cut out as a precaution.

Amazingly, the same thing happened at the same Walgreens to a 53-year-old woman, and a 23-year-old woman reported the same thing happened to her at a Kroger across the street. All three incidents occurred within two days and have all been reported to police.

If it is polycyanoacrylate glue then this is a very dangerous form of assault. Not only is there a risk of getting this glue in the eyes, but this glue gives off a significant amount of heat in a very short amount of time when it hardens, potentially causing burns. (Ever wonder why it is sold in tiny bottles?)

It’s beyond a practical joke: serious charges should be laid.

I hope the cops get him first. I am sure the parents of some of his victims can come up with some novel uses for superglue that don't involve using it on a little kids hair.
