A Chicago police officer avoided jail time today for pummeling a woman who was tending bar, even though prosecutors produced a previously unseen video showing him beating someone else at the bar hours earlier.
Anthony Abbate was sentenced to two years probation for beating Karolina Obrycka in February of 2007. He could have gotten up to five years for the attack, which was captured by the bar's security camera and shown around the world.

“If I believed that sending Anthony Abbate to prison would stop people from getting drunk and hitting other people, I’d sentence him to the maximum,” Judge John Fleming said. “But I don’t believe that is the case.”
What a stupid a** judge. What better way to deter crimes such as this than send this corrupt idiot away behind bars. Where is justice? More Chicago way politics in the judicial system.

I really am not surprised. They protect each other. This is such a clear cut case of assault. No one should be able to walk away from this crime without doing some jail time.

Sarah Palin needs only to flip 10% or so of the women’s vote to be a serious contender in 2012. If I were her, I’d give Obummer a day or two to respond, and if he didn’t, I’d loudly ask why this was business as usual in his home town.

It would deter him from beating up women, at least while he was in jail. It probably wouldn't deter drunken Chicago cops from beating people in bars and getting away with it.

If you don't count the guy he beat earlier......and the other incidents that probably got covered up because there was no video.
Abbate had faced several charges, including intimidation, conspiracy and communicating with a witness and official misconduct.

The police department is seeking to have Abbate fired,
