I have pondered over posting this for a few weeks now, and I have posted these lyrics in one or two threads, along with placing them on my profile page, but each day, the lyrics of this song seem to be coming true. They seem to signal out Obama's true goal for our country. I invite you to read these lyrics and to commment.
This song is about limited Freedom of Speech and was written in 1988...coming off Reagan’s presidency. Considering Metallica I would say they were likely referencing the Republican president as is the usual trend with rock bands when a Republican is in office. For example, when do you think we will see an entire album from Green Day bashing Obama? or how about another 3 album tirade from Ministry against Obama? yup...you guessed it, never...
In 1988,Metalica was so drunk I do not thing there was an agenda.
You got a point there... :)
Exactly! It’s GOOD for everyone when a Democrat takes away freedoms. It’s for the “greater good”.
I still have yet to find what freedoms Reagan took away from people. You could say that Bush did some by signing the Patriot Act...but I don’t have any friends or family who have been “violated” by this.
What about Living Colour’s ‘Cult of Personality’ instead?
Absolutely...I have been calling that the Obama Theme Song for over a year now
LOL
My mother said that the Patriot Act made it a real pain for her to manange my brother's financial and legal work while he was in Europe for four years. That's the only specific, real-world complaint I've ever heard.
It's sort of like when the Y2K "disaster" occurred, and the only actual effect I heard of was that it threw off the time clock at the Sonic where my babysitter worked.
What about Living Colours Cult of Personality instead?
My personal theme song of Obama is “You Haven’t Done Nothin’” by Stevie Wonder.
Even though it’s about Nixon, the lyrics fit Obama quite vividly.
We are amazed but not amused by
all the things you say
That you’ll do. Though much
concerned but not involved
With decisions that are made by you.
But we are sick and tired of hearing your song
Tellin’ how you are gonna
change right from wrong
‘Cause if you really want to hear our views:
You haven’t done nothin’
It’s not to cool to be ridiculed
but you brought this up
On yourself. The world is tired of pacifiers
We want the truth and nothing else
yeah.
And we are sick and tired of hearing your song
He would not care to wake up to the night-mare
That’s becomin’ real life
but when mislead
Who knows a person’s mind can turn
as cold as ice - um hum
Why do you keep on makin’ us hear your song
Tellin’ us how you are changin right from wrong
‘Cause if your really want to hear our views:
You haven’t done nothin’
yeah.
OK, Mr. Short Term Memory: please remember that Reagan was a Drug Warrior Extraordinaire....but I guess you "dont have any friends or family who have been violated by this", so it's just fine, correct?
I’ve had a bunch of pothead family that weren’t affected. The world would be a better place and their kids would have turned out better if the WOD would have affected them.
Another unfortunate anti-freedom measure passed during the Reagan years was the national 21-to-drink law, which denied fed highway money to states that did not enact Prohibition on adults aged 18 through 21-less-1-day.
Le Chien Rouge has a point about "Cult of Personality"
Reagan can hardly be named âDrug Warrior Extraordinaireâ. Compare his actions to Clinton’s and tell me who deserves that title. Further it’s not like under Reagan’s administration drugs were suddenly made illegal, they were all ready illegal. The only think to support your statement was that the administration introduced strict mandatory sentencing and changed budget distribution for drug interdiction from treatment to law enforcement.
Heck, I attended one of the Seattle shows on their Binge and Purge box set. I still remember my Alcoholica t-shirt back when I was a snot-nosed kid and they were truly drunks.
Nowadays, Lars Ulrich annoys me to no ends with his whiny rant about the US soldiers using their songs to “torture” terrorists back in Iraq.
I just hope there’s a time soon when we can say that Motorhead’s song Traitor is applicable to 0bama and his minions.
You stand accused of treason
you offer no good reason
You are a bloody liar
yours is the stake the fire
say you are innocent
but you be caught and spent
And now you pay the price
for avarice, your vice
Intrigue your sole desire
you sold your wife, your child
You sell your oldest friends
you sold your countrymen
And yet we know your name
traitor, traitor
And now your face is shown
and so your fate is known
We have discovered you
we have uncovered you
say you were led astray
fall on your knees and pray
Pity is not for you
we’ll make things hot for you
Our hearts we make to harden
for you there is no pardon
For you the spike awaits
upon the traitors gate
And crows will eat your eyes
traitor, traitor
Delight in finding you
as we are binding you
You look in vain for friends
you only find revenge
We give you blood and steel
we break you on the wheel
The ones you hope to sell
will send you straight to hell
As we dismember you
we shall remember you
You are abomination
you that betray the nation
You shall take long to die
traitor, traitor!!!
I think of Fat Teddy Swimmer when I hear their version of Whiskey in the Jar.
Yep....it's just another way to concentrate power into Washington, D.C.: get the states addicted to the flow of federal funds, then if they choose to do something that D.C. doesn't like, withhold theieir drug supply until they concede. Absolutely disgraceful -- & ILLEGAL under the Constitution, 'cuz they don't have the authority to give such funds to the states in the 1st place!
