Marine pedicures have popped up in Illinois -- and clients are biting: nlike many fish, the Garra rufa is unafraid of humans. In fact, these pinkie-size fish like you. They like you very much. Which is key to why they're turning up in salons in Virginia, Ohio and now, Aurora and Gurnee. People are paying $25-$50 to plop their feet and/or hands in water tanks and let swarms of the gray, toothless fish work as Neptune's exfoliators. "They have very firm lips," said Olena Manakina, co-owner of Fun Fins in the Gurnee Mills Mall. "They literally suck off the tiny patches of dead skin. It tingles like crazy for a minute. But I've yet to see somebody jump out of the tank."

At Fun Fins in the Gurnee Mills Mall, small Garra rufa fish eat the dead skin off the feet of Shauntiah Grashen of Waukegan.
Feet ?.....;o)
Is Dick Morris their spokesman?
I heard they banned them here in Washington because the heath department ruled that there’s no way to properly “sanitize” them between customers...
Weren’t there other problems with these fish? I seem to recall it wasn’t such a good idea. (Personally I think it’s gross).
Ummm..., it’s like my Grandpa used to say — they took it “hook, line and sinker!”... LOL...
This is a great way to spread bacterial, fungus, and viral infections among customers.
It’s been outlawed in several states (Florida, Texas, Washington, Massachusetts and New Hampshire that I know of) over concerns the fish could carry “something” from one client to the next.
Can they also apply nail polish??
I don’t see them putting thousands of pedicurists out of work anytime soon, though.
Unemployment is at 9%, the economy is in the tank and Obamas buds are getting fish pedicures?
I guess the devil is in the details, so to speak. I for one would love the details too. :)
Beyond being a fad, I can see where they would offer some relief, even if temporary, to those with chronic skin disorders such as psoriasis (of which I suffer).
Piranhas work too, but just a tad to extreme or me. :-)
Somehow, someway, there lurks here something vaguely obscene?
sumpin’ fishy about this story...
ROFLOL!!
I got one of these in Texas. Didn’t pay for it though. Was out hiking, and dipped my feet in the creek. Tickled like crazy.
