Hayes was not a bad Congresscritter, strictly on his voting record, but he was a weak candidate without much oomph. Maybe he was just tired.

Anyway, the seat should be a fairly easy pickup for a forceful Republican candidate with some firm principles.

Why do some of the people who post here
use the phrase “ congresscritter” ?
It is really not very apt as it implies
something cute and definitely not dangerous
They are certainly not cute and are, in fact, extremely dangerous.
