Question..was does it mean “Valid only if...etc”..how can they tell?

If you install the software required to print the free coupon it is supposed to give each coupon a unique ID number. Some restaurants have refused to accept the coupons which end in ...1234 because that was the sample one.

This is turning into a bigger cluster foxtrot than when Quiznos had a similar deal. The problem is that the franchisees are supposed to give the free meal without any corporate support. At Quiznos, many of the franchisees refused to accept the coupons. There are already stories about KFC restaurants limiting the total number of coupons they'll accept per day.

Yum is really spinning now, they are calling 1234 a 'sample?' (when Orca had it all over her website)

But if the individual store owners have no corporate support, I can see why they are shutting the doors--like in NYC
