This seems low. Rush said there were 800 tea parties nationally. Most reports I've seen in FR show about 1000 at most tea parties. Many even more.
800 X 1000 = 800,000 ?
Has any one seen better national estimates?
There were tea parties in small towns all over America.... whats more amazing are the papers that didn’t give them front page coverage
Clearly, Rush is trying not to overstate the numbers.
I do think that his estimate is low, because I know of Tea Parties in Kansas that are not on the “official list”.
That is the point - while many of the bigger gatherings saw 1000-2000, many of the 800 or so “TEA Parties” were held in smaller towns with much smaller attendance. 50 at one that I know of, 200 at another, and so on.
And because this was a very loose-knit “event”, there really is no way of getting an accurate count nationwide.
I do know that the main event in Little Rock had about 2000 in attendance (at the peak), yet local media reporting “hundreds”.
Yet sticking with a party that refuses to use any common sense, and sells the base down the river is a “smart” idea? Please.
There were 5,000 in some cities and apparently more than 10,000 in Atlanta
It is MUCH, MUCH easier to take over the Republican Party than it will ever be to start a successful 3rd Party and actually WIN any policy debates.
The RINO wing of the Party LOVE you 3rd Party types.
Obama and the Marxists in Congress LOVE you 3rd Party types.
Doesn't that give you a clue as to how bad this idea is?
These were not pro-GOP rallies
we need to organize as a party within the party
However, there are Democrats who vote Republican, in every election.
However, there are Republicans who vote Democrat, in every election.
The success of the various parties is determined by the net result, and the Party affiliation, of the WINNER!
In this case, with the Tea Parties, the Republican Party is the largest group of people, nationwide, standing in opposition to Obama.
The Republican Party does benefit greatly, as the Democrats are protested against like this.
The only thing that will save the Marxist Democrats?
3rd Party kooks splitting the vote!
I agree.
This is what hurts most, when I see conservatives get angry and then do what the LEFT wants:
The left wants us to destroy the Republican Party!
Instead, I want Conservatives to take control of the Republican Party.
For one thing, the experience of taking over the GOP is GREAT “boot camp” training for winning in November General Elections.
For another, it is far, far easier to take over a smaller group, the GOP, than it is to take over the entire country, all at once.
“Instead, I want Conservatives to take control of the Republican Party.”
That is the best way.
Kristinn was running a spreadsheet on numbers last night, and was up to around 490,000 on around 300 reported tea parties.

Good call....voting for GOP got us Obama. /sarc
I am stating the only plausible road or strategy to success:
Conservative Control of the Republican Party!
I am not going to guarantee success, I am only telling you that NOTHING else has a chance of success.
at one time the GOP had a majority in both houses AND the white house.
McCain screwed that all up.
Then the GOP nominates McCain.
Single dum bass-est political move in US history.
However, if the 3rd Party types actually RUN 3rd Party candidates all over the country?
THEY will become the “dumbest political move ever”
Let’s just apply the “Million Man Math” and say it was an even 3 billion.
