This is the first year for the tournament. I couldnt find anything in the Times no brackets, no seedings, no analysis, no expert predictions. I have corrected the first of these deficiencies below so at least you all can get those office pools started. I will report back tomorrow with first round results.

That’s hilarious, only 8 teams. You had to actually be a good team to make the tourney. Of course the great depression was still going on.

Yep. I bet Oregon had one lousy bus ride to get to this tournament.

You had to actually be a good team to make the tourney.Maybe not. It might have been the reverse of today in that the NIT was the more prestigous tournament and the NCAA was a consolation prize. The NIT got way more coverage in the paper.

Would you post the NIT brackets pls? I’m figuring if UNC-CH wasn’t in it, then it probably wasn’t the premier event (and no, I’m no fan. Go Pack! [just not this year, sigh])

Would you post the NIT brackets pls? There were only 6 teams in the NIT. It was the second year for that tournament.
1939 (6 teams) - Bradley, Long Island, Loyola (Chicago), New Mexico A&M, Roanoke, St. John's. Quarterfinals-Long Island beat New Mexico A&M, 52-45. St. John's beat Roanoke, 71-47. Semifinals-Long Island beat Bradley, 36-32. Loyola beat St. John's, 51-46 (ot). Championship-Long Island beat Loyola, 44-32. Third place-Bradley beat St. John's, 40-35.

Yes! Go Pack! (But not this year, indeed)
At least the Tar Holes got knocked off in the ACC tournament. That made me happy.

Doesn’t matter. They got a #1 seed and are Final Four bound. UNC: University of National Champions!

Good work, Homer! That does read quite askew basketball-power wise. St. John’s I can see as a perpetual power and Bradley is often a surrpise, but...New Mexico A&M??!? I have to wonder if either tournament was even national in any real sense.

Also, till a scandal in the mid-60’s, the NIT was a bigger deal than the NCAA’s that then came to dominate.
