The public will finally get an opportunity to speak about federal stimulus funding.
A state legislative committee will conduct a field hearing Saturday morning in Arlington to take public testimony about the American Recovery and Investment Act. In Texas cities and counties, some officials see the federal funds as a jump-start for long-overdue purchases, but others worry that the one-time of use of federal funds will create unforeseen expenses down the road.
"Pretty much across the board, people are concerned about the strings," said state Rep. Vicki Truitt, R-Keller and a member of the House Select Committee on Federal Economic Stabilization Funding. "Texas is in better shape than any other place in the country, and part of that is because of our fiscal restraint. The concern lies in accepting this money. We want to make sure we understand what commitment comes along with that."

Tomorrow's UT-A hearing about the stimulus may get crowded fast with people with strong opinions both for and against Gov. Rick Perry's decision to reject some of the money.
Steve Maxwell, chair of the Tarrant County Democratic Party, said he wants Democrats there to give people the "facts and figures" about President Obama's stimulus package.
"Im about to do a robodial message to our troops so we get our people there as well," Maxwell said. "I dont think Ive ever seen as big a philosophical divide as Ive seen right now."

Don’t take the money. You will fall right into their trap and don’t let the other side take the money either. They think our not taking the money leaves more for them.
Not true. No money should go to either side. It should go back to the taxpayer.

You are right. As Perry said the requirements attached to the federal stimulus money would require a change in the state’s definition of unemployment by expanding it to include part-time employees. He said such an expansion would counteract the package’s objective of job creation by leading companies to limit hiring and raise prices.
Perry is recommending acceptance of some of the $17 BILLION that was slated for Texas, though. The part he is rejecting this the paltry 555 million for expanded unemployment benefits and the requirement to change state policy on unemployment.

Actions have consequences.
Conservatives understand that and act accordingly!
Numbskull Liberals don't see past their noses, and then later claim "I had NO IDEA! NO FAIR!!" or "I had NO IDEA! OH, WELL!!"
Or whatever. :)

Ping!
I think AZ is getting nuttin’. I’m glad.
Plus Phoenix is the No. 1 kidnapping city in the U.S. Only Mexico City is higher in the world. So probably we’ll have less folks to feed, clothe and God forbid bail out because they’re missing.
I’m angry. Clean up the cities, you Congressional turds. Little kids are being sold out in more ways than one.
