RIO DE JANEIRO — A Roman Catholic archbishop says the abortion of twins carried by a 9-year-old girl who allegedly was raped by her stepfather means excommunication for the girl's mother and her doctors.
Despite the nature of the case, the church had to hold its line against abortion, Archbishop Jose Cardoso Sobrinho said in an interview aired Thursday by Globo television.
"The law of God is higher than any human laws," he said. "When a human law — that is, a law enacted by human legislators — is against the law of God, that law has no value. The adults who approved, who carried out this abortion have incurred excommunication."

I don’t condone abortions, but i think it is necessary in this case. Without abortion, the 9 year old and the twins she was carrying would also be dead.

I had to start wearing a bra at age 9, started menstruating at age 11 (30 years ago.) And girls can ovulate - have eggs that will readily be fertilized - before they ever have a period.

Shoot me for it - but if it were my 9 year old daughter, I’d want the same. She’s already been abused and raped at such a young age. Does she have to carry her stepfather’s children?? And treat them as what, siblings, all her life? I wouldn’t want my daughter’s life put at risk, at the age of 9, to try to carry two babies to term. Just because her body was able to produce an egg doesn’t mean she should be made to suffer more than she already has. And adoption? In Brazil? There are already unwanted, homeless children running wild in the streets of Rio de Janeiro and other Brazilian towns.
If the nine year old girl was my child — the Stepfather won’t have a chance to be excommunicated by the Cahtolic church, cuz he’ll be dead the moment I find out he raped my daughter. Then I am going to have my daughter have an abortion. Sorry folks, that is just my stand on this case. The stepfather does not have any business living in this world.

Totally agree. Again, if that was my child, I would be ready to leave the church for the sake of my child’s health.
But bovine and porcine growth hormones are biologically inactive in humans. That can’t be the explanation.
