No offense, but “steel traps” are harmless these days. They are made to hold animals, and they are not the old scary traps that hollywood cartoons presented with giant bone-crunching teeth. Most, if not all modern traps have offset jaws. This means that they have a gap in their jaws that are designed to not break bones and to only hold the animal. You can probably youtube tons of animals being let go out of traps and all they are is sore (from) struggling for a few hours.

Even if many animals do survive the traps, I’d still say that aerial hunting seems more humane.
Less pain and suffering. And less chance of a wrong capture/kill.
