A 10 minute internet search turned up 15 towns named "hot Springs" from VA to CA. in addition many other states have at least one town renowned for their natural hot baths. Why are we wasting time and money on solar panels and windmills when the model for "environmentally sound" power production is under our feet?I never see this mentioned at all, but the tech is proven (see Iceland) and the risks are small, without the need for the toxic materials in PV cells. Is it because we'd want to drill at Yellowstone?
Follow the money.
They tried to drill for steam power in Oregon and the enviroterrorists stopped them.

Obviously no one would want to drill in Yellowstone itself, but to an environmentalist within 500 miles would be too close.
Unfortunately we have a dream in this country that we caqn have it all with no trade offs. Enviros are not willing to settle for anything but their version of clean energy. Ethanol is a case in point, 2 years it was the rage, now we have seen the downside and have to get out from under all of the government regulations.
The same is going to happen with windfarms. Already we see enviros suing to stop them in certain places so they don’t hinder the view.
The problem with environmentalism is not that they want to find something that works, they want a perfect solution that someone else pays for developing, but not to make a profit, while they reserve the right to stop the whole thing with a lawsuit....or dozens of them so a judge will give them a cash award of taxpayer dollars for their expenses.
Drill, Baby! Drill!
There’s no one right answer on green energy; geothermal’s great and it works well in Iceland because the entire country’s basically a big volcano: drill a hole and you’re likely to hit hot water. If you hooked steam turbines up to every hotspring in America you’d produce a lot of cheap, clean energy, but not nearly enough to run the entire country—plus you’d have the problem of “shipping” electricity around the country on our antiquated grid. It ultimately makes more sense to build a green energy system regionally: solar where it’s sunny, wind where it’s windy, wave power on the coasts, etc. Now if only we could figure out how to turn all this snow into electricity, we’d be set!
Can’t drill — someone might hit oil by accident, and that would be a *disaster*. Someone might actually be able to *earn a living*, and that’s all wrong for our society.

You don’thave to generate every kW by geo, but it is a more dependable source than the sun and wind, requires no toxic materials for generation and requires no storage.
Of all the “green” tech, only wave energy has this potential.
We still have coal.
