In England they used be tough - they had a type of toilet paper that consisted of little sheets of wax paper that came in a box. Neither soft not absorbent. I don’t even know how women could use it. The strange thing is that some people actually preferred it. A relative of mine used to bring some along when she visited the US.

I remember the shock of discovering this on my first trip to the UK. My Mom joked that after using the public restrooms, we now had a whole new use for Chapstick!
