I agree that this type of crime warrants death and I wish the penalty could be enforced, here.

But at the same time, there are other aspects of the case that disturb me as well.

He’s been described as somebody who was a good father to his children, and the day before this happened he’d had to appear in the Family Court over a custody dispute with his estranged wife. He also drove to that court with his surviving two children just after he did this hideous act. I don’t know the details of the hearing he participated in, or its outcome, but I do know of far too many cases where good fathers have been driven to despair by that court and its tendency to side with mothers over fathers regardless of the circumstances.

Nothing can excuse what this man seems to have done. But we’ve got to fix the system that is causing so much pain to good men.

I'm really sorry, but I gotta say something to that post. Any guy who would throw his kid off a bridge probably SHOULDN'T have any sort of custody. And I don't care if his ex wife has his gonads in a bench grinder. And just to make it fair? The same applies if the situation was reversed and the wife threw the child off the bridge when faced with a custody hearing that might not go her way.

The only victim here was four. And, NO, I don't care to get into a debate about daddy rights. Daddy's rights evaporated on the bridge.
