LACEY, Wash. Employees of a pizza delivery shop say the owners have cut off the heat in the store. And they say if the workers dont like it, they can leave.

Read the article and see what kind of total jerkbags the owners are. They don't deserve to own a business.
Evidently they don’t realize that it’s 2009 now, and programmable thermostats are the norm. This is why we end up with thousands of laws and regulations from OSHA & moronic city council resolutions.
Even 55 is too cold. Start delivering cold pizza and I’ll bet they start to care.
I suppose the market place will make that decision, like its supposed to.
I've had crappy bosses too. I found a different job.
They sound like jerks. Just buy an inexpensive programmable thermostat and program in the different temps for the different times of the day and night, and it becomes a non-issue.
There is something more to this. It is not just about the heat. The owner woman has a stick up her butt about something bigger than just the heat.
SCROOGE: Hey, hey, you there! Bob Cratchit! Come here! What are you doing
there?!
BOB CRATCHIT: I’m only putting a bit more coal in the fire, Mr. Scrooge,
seeing it’s so cold in there, sir.
SCROOGE: You put that coal back into the scuttle! A fire! A fire, indeed. I
can tell you, if you use coal at that rate, you and I will soon be parting
company, Bob Cratchit. You understand that? There’s many a young fella’d like
your situation, you know.
BOB CRATCHIT: I’m sorry, sir. My fingers were getting a little stiff with the
cold—
SCROOGE: Then put on your mittens.

From Orson Welles adaptation of A Christmas Carol (1939)
She’s a bean counter and has a heater.
The owners are jerkoffs. If I were an employee I’d tell the owners where to stuff their f***ing pizza dough....
She's a biotch....
A little taste of what’s to come when Dear Leader starts telling us to reduce our heating, lighting and AC for the benefit of the Climate and to reduce our oil and coal consumption. On the bright side...Dear Leaders National Civilian Corps Barracks will be nicely heated and cooled.
Pizza Time ...We serve the coldest pizza in town or it is free.
They might be better off talking to the labor board.
In addition, at around 20F, I would think frostbite on hands would be an issue. That could be one heck of a workman's comp claim... If an employee reported an on-the-job injury as a result of this, imagine what would happen to the owner's insurance premiums.
WA State Labor Board has already been asked by the reporter. No law exists stating what the temp is supposed to be, except maybe the law of common sense.
Which neither of the owners seem to have any of.
Bet the customers love the dining room.
“The beatings will continue until morale improves”.
I can’t remember where that phrase originated.
Guess its time to change that law. They probably didn't think any owners would be so nasty. Some businesses are just crappy that way. Not sure how bad the economy is there but the workers might have a hard time finding different jobs.
I think this is going to change soon.
That’s part of her mentality but there’s more behind this.
I would bet the business is not doing well and she is taking the stress out on the employee’s small screwup. And/or something has gone on there where she feels the employees don’t respect her enough and she’s being a hard ass to possibly get the ones she doesn’t like to get in line or quit. Her reaction is emotional to punish, not logical or financial, as getting a cheap programmable thermostat would solve the problem. A person who just wants to make sure the heat isn’t left on would just get a programmable thermostat and take the issue out of everyone’s hands, no more problem. She is ‘teaching them a lesson.’
There is more to it.
