An assistance program empowering welfare recipients that also helps the auto industry. No handouts, No bailouts.
Preposterous. That’s going to totally piss off all of those who’re working but can’t afford a new car.
I’m not sure that I’d feel that comfortable on the highways with millions more welfare recipients tooling around- many with little driving experience and no insurance.
But then, that’s just me.
Gee, that’s about the most idiotic idea I have seen, unless this is sarcasm like the Onion or FR’s own AZConservative.
Let’s hand out free ponies, too.
My suggestion to someone is, “Put the pipe down and back slowly away.”

What about the slavery caused by taking drivers licenses away from people with too many traffic violations?/s
“Preposterous. Thats going to totally piss off all of those whore working but cant afford a new car.”
So, it’s not a picture of Newman, Cramer and a homeless guy with a rickshaw? (I’m on dial up, have to pick and choose which links to open)
Good point. If they can’t afford a beater, they sure as heck can’t auto insurance. And after Obama’s energy taxes, they can’t afford gas, either.
That also assumes they will not get into accidents, will pay for gas, will pay for maintenance, will buy insurance, will respect the car and take care of it, will drive responsibly, will not cause more problems that it solves.
It’s a naive solution that will not work. I’m not a fan of public transportation, but it’s there for people who don’t have anything else. Making it less than wonderful often helps as an incentive for people to find a way to get their own car. Getting a car is a goal for people.
Just giving them a car - they aren’t ready to be responsible with it, or pay for it, or take care of it, because it was GIVEN to them, they didn’t earn it. You earn it and put sweat equity in it, you take care of it, it’s worth something to you.
Ex. Welfare housing (aka the projects, govt housing).
Actually, slavery might be the answer for this. Under the Old Testament, A fellow Hebrew who became destitute (though they were require to help such a one to prevent that) could sell himself into slavery, the manner regulated under Moses, and which forbade harsh treatment (he shall be as a hired servant), and after 6 years could be free, and will liberal “severance pay.” So the Gov. loans the automakers a little money - which to be consistent again with the O.T. cannot has to be interest free - for maybe 7 years, and if they cannot pay, well,.. oh well, that’s when it becomes a problem. Maybe put them all in the military tell they pay it off
Of the 35 million living in American poverty, 46% live in their own homes, 76% have air conditioning, 97% own a color TV, 78% a DVD or VCR, 65% their own washing machine, 73% their own car, 30% own more than one car.

And the perfect person to oversee it is apparently looking for a job in the Obama Regime
She already done it. "Can't afford a car, or get finance? Free car"
Also a $7000 tax bill. The whole idea overlooked the situtation that someöne who could lay their hands on $7000 could have bought quite a good car, cash, and insured it to boot.
