Sophie Scholl was executed by guillotine by Third Reich for her Hitler resistance activities. She was found guilty of distributing leaflets at college and for this she was killed. This is a dramatization of that event, it is a movie that will not leave you and will have you thinking about it for days after viewing. I highly recommend this film.
Thanks Mel....seems we have arrived.
This was a terrific movie about a small group of incredibly brave young people. Highly recommended.
I really can’t praise this film enough.
I just want to stare at that picture, such bravery and focus for someone so young is beyond comprehension.
I can’t believe I am just now learning her story. That is why I posted on FR. There may be others ignorant of this story.
Saw this movie a couple years ago - very compelling. No earth shattering special effects - but suspenseful & intense, at least for me. Kept wondering how the interrogation scenes would play out. Human beings portrayed like human beings caught in terrible circumstances, yet some of them choose to do the right thing.
I saw this in the theater, and I have the DVD. It is an excellent film.

Thanks for the recommendation! I have not heard of the movie, but will be getting a copy soon.
An anti-Nazi film? How refreshing! I’ve never seen one before. It seems we are inundated with anti-communist films. I realize that Lenin murdered almost as many people as Hitler, Stalin murdered twice as many people as Hitler, and Mao murdered even more people that did Stalin. But come on, who needs yet another anti-communist film? Oh I know some will carp that radical Islam is a threat and it should be addressed by more films. But don’t be fooled, the Nazi threat is a clear and present danger. We need more anti-Nazi films today. (s.)
I love this movie. I caught it a couple of years ago.
I recommend the movie “Longford”. Excellent.
And if YOU were actually the expert you believe yourself to be you would realize that Nazism, communism and Islamofascism all emanate from the same evil source. And that means that it is a clear and present danger.
Oh and why don’t you expand on your expertise by telling us how many movies have been done about White Rose or any of the Resistance movements.
I look forward with a mixture of anticipation and dread to Valkyrie. Similar theme, anti-Hitler resistance, but the fact that Tom Cruise is the star is highly worrisome.
The fact that Hollywood has chosen not to make anti-Communist films in no way diminishes the impact of this fine movie. Keep in mind it was made in Germany, which also produced one of the most powerful anti-Communist films ever, The Lives of Others. Hollywood could learn a lot from the many fine foreign movies being produced today.
Valkyrie probably would be a great movie IF they had someone in the lead role who could actually act.
Great movie. I also loved "Goodbye, Lenin".
Another great anti-communist movie was "The Inner Circle" which was produced in Russia, but I've yet to see it on DVD.
Odd that you mention The Lives of Others. I rented Scholl and Lives of Others at the same time. (Netflix movies like this are hard to find locally) I just happened to view Scholl first.
I have it. You are right, it was good. Some humorous moments as well.
Me too. We stumbled on it by accident while channel surfing and were totally entranced. Very sweet film.
What would we do without Netflix? They pointed me to Sophie Scholl because I liked Downfall. Otherwise I'd never have heard of it.
