Former Lion Charles Rogers jailed

PONTIAC, Mich. (AP) — Former Detroit Lions wide receiver Charles Rogers is being held in the Oakland County Jail on a $100,000 bond for a probation violation.

Jail records show the 28-year-old Rogers has been locked up since Wednesday.

The Oakland Press of Pontiac and the Detroit Free Press say Rogers was arrested Sept. 12 in Novi following an incident involving him and a woman. Rogers was later charged with assault and battery, pleaded no contest to a reduced charge of trespassing and was sentenced to probation and partial confinement.

The Press says Rogers was charged with violating probation by taking unauthorized leave from confinement and testing positive for narcotics. He is to appear in court at 9 a.m. Monday.

A message seeking comment was left with Rogers' lawyer, Joshua Ben of Bingham Farms.

Drugs take yet another talent down the swirling toilet. Nancy was right: just say no.

And between Charlie and Plexiglass being in the news this week, maybe it's time that MSU rethink how they handle their talented wide receivers?!?

They have. Coach Dantonio has put a new culture in place. Not a guarantee but my guess is that you won’t have Rogers/Burress/Rison types on his squad.

The Bengals are elated that these stories are about other teams.

Yeah, State football is much improved, to my UofM-fan chagrin....

I’m waiting for a “The Longest Yard” sequel. There’s alot of football talent behind bars.

We should compile a list of who's currently, recently, or headed to being behind bars, sorted by position:

Wide Receivers: Charlie Rogers, Plaxico Burress
Running Back: O.J. Simpson
Quarterback: Michael Vick
Defensive Tackle: Tank Johnson
etc., etc.

Add me to your list, please. I have a daughter who is a junior at UMich and I go there at least once/year for a game. I froze my butt off at the NW game this year. As a Giants fan, my weekend chant in the fall is “Go Blue times TWO!”

This Sunday the Lions are dedicating the game to Charles. In fact, looking back on it, I think they’ve been dedicating their entire 2008 season to him.

:’)

thanks Yossarian.

Not surprised at all. He had a rep at MSU. Millen was a fool to draft him. But Millen was a fool anyway.

Off the top of my head roster: (arressted or legal troubles)
QB Mike Vick
WR Michael Irvin, Plaxico Buress, Charles Rodgers, Cris Henry
RB Timmy Smith (old school), Lawrence Phillips
OL Nate Newton, Matt Lehr
DL Tank Johnson (perfect name)
LB Ray Lewis, Lawrence Taylor, Odell Thurman
DB (cant think of any)

That would be one hell of a college football team, I tell you what. And this doesnt include the recent Viking/Saint/Texan masking agent busts or the Panthers/Merriman steroids issues.

They had NFL Europe, how about NFL “Up the River” or something?
