Ironically, in NY if you have a carry license you can carry in bars, with no BAC limit.

But the law is wrong, sometimes.

If the law stated you cannot store more than three days supply of food, would you obey it?

If the law stated you couldn’t discipline your child, would you obey it?

If the law stated you could not state any views against homosexuality anywhere outside your immediate home, would you obey it

If the law stated you could not attend any churches but those registered with the state, would you obey it?

If the law stated that you were required to turn in all neighbors, friends and family members that own guns or read subversive publications, would you obey it?

I wouldn’t...

Conversely, I know people that conduct business in Sacramento, a gang-ridden crime-ridden city, and they carry handguns for protections, even though it’s illegal.

And it’s necessary...a friend of mine wasn’t carrying, and he was parked at a stoplight. A gang member walked up to the side of the car as he was parked and smashed a 2x4 into his face, hurting him severly.

Another friend stopped in a gas station late at night and was robbed by a group of thugs.

So...sometimes it is more important to take the means necessary to protect yourself, even if doing so violates thew law.

In my own case, I’ve never carried illegally, but whenever I visit NYC I carry a folding knife in my fanny pack or pocket.

It’s illegal to do so, but I choose to protect myself over obeying a senseless law designed to keep as sheep.

The one man I know who travels into North Sacramento daily has a pistol grip Mossberg 500 12 gauge hanging in clips attached to the inside roof of his car and a .45 on his belt. He chuckles and says that he didn't give up drinking and smoking to get taken out by a drugged up punk. I told him he needs to sell his stores and retire up here in Nevada.

Wow!

I know Sac’to is bad, but needing both a Mossy 500 AND a .45?!

Yikes!

Where in Nevada do you live?

I used to live in Vegas, two blocks from Bob Stupak’s Las Vegas World (since torn down.)

And we go down to Reno a lot, and dearly love to explore the old ghost towns like Gold Field, Gold Point, Mercury and Tonopah...although Tonopah is also neat for all the military stuff they have around there.

He’d make a good test case, since he had no criminal record. While he should be facing some sort of charges (along the lines of “reckless endangerment”), he should fight the charges made under NYC’s unconstitutional gun control laws, and he should get help from RKBA groups to do it.

Politically speaking, this is case worth pursuing for RKBA groups, since Burress’ popularity as an NFL player would help build support for having these laws declared unconstitutional or otherwise repealed, and would help draw new supporters into the RKBA movement from a segment of the population (inner city blacks) who have traditionally been gun control supporters and ignored by RKBA groups.

“Then you would go to jail as will Buress.”

As did the people in Germany who disobeyed orders to turn in Jews, as did people in Romania who were sentenced to death for listening to Western media, and as did the people in the USSR who listened to the VOA.

We will always have tyrannical laws, we will always have despots, and there will always be people who slavishly follow those laws, whether just or unjust, and also people who do whatever it takes to protect themselves and their families, like myself.

I hope for your sake you are never presented with a choice to follow an unjust law, and suffer because of it, or doing the right thing and possibly being punished by the state for doing that instead.

Eventually we will see arsenal laws that require you to turn in all ammo except for a limited amount, we will see laws that say if you post “hateful, intolerant” views on the internet or your local paper you will be fined, be sent to jail or be ordered to pay remunerations to local Muslim or homosexual groups.

There may come laws against hoarding food, maybe laws against teaching your children hate or intolerance, maybe laws against home-schooling your kids or sending them to Christian schools.

Or it may be as simple as deciding to carry a knife or gun when you know you are in an unsafe area.

At that moment you will need to decide “Do I disobey the State and do what’s right for me and my family, or do I obey the State and suffer whatever consequences come from that?”

See ya’,

Ed

Oh, we're down to the "nazi" arguments now.

For your information I am FOR gun ownership. I also recognize the state has a right to require me to get a license.

Are you really advocating that everyone in the U.S. be allowed to have a gun with any kind of licensing?

Yeah, I don’t believe in gun licensing.

I live in Oregon where no gun licensing is required. You probably live in an Eastern seaboard state where people are used to the government requiring that.

The only trouble with that is, as happened in Illinois and California, when the state outlaws a certain kind of gun, the cops will come knocking at your door and take those weapons from you. I, for one, do not wish that to happen to me.

I have lived in numerous states, by the way...Alaska, Idaho, Oregon, Nevada, Montana, Washington, Kansas and California, and only Kansas required licensing of guns.

I left Cali many decades ago, so that may be different now.

Just understand that in the West the attitude is against licensing of guns, and it hasn’t cause horrible shootouts in the street, nor has the almost-universal must-issue CCW laws.

Shooting himself in the leg was dumb.
But not “legally owning” a gun???

I guess some people haven’t heard of the SECOND AMENDMENT.

Sir Ed is right, -what was the first thing the Nazi’s did, if it wasn’t take gun rights away from the citizens?

>”Are you really advocating that everyone in the U.S. be allowed to have a gun with any kind of licensing?”<

You really don’t understand the importence of the Constitutional right to keep and bear arms, do you?

“The Constitution shall never be construed....to prevent the people of the United States who are peaceable citizens from keeping their own arms” (Samuel Adams, Debates and Proceedings in the Convention of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, 86-87)

“To preserve liberty, it is essential that the whole body of people always possess arms, and be taught alike especially when young, how to use them.” (Richard Henry Lee, 1788, Initiator of the Declaration of Independence, and member of the first Senate, which passed the Bill of Rights, Walter Bennett, ed., Letters from the Federal Farmer to the Republican, at 21,22,124 (Univ. of Alabama Press,1975)..)

“The great object is that every man be armed” and “everyone who is able may have a gun.” (Patrick Henry, in the Virginia Convention on the ratification of the Constitution. Debates and other Proceedings of the Convention of Virginia,...taken in shorthand by David Robertson of Petersburg, at 271, 275 2d ed. Richmond, 1805. Also 3 Elliot, Debates at 386)

“The people are not to be disarmed of their weapons. They are left in full possession of them.” (Zachariah Johnson, 3 Elliot, Debates at 646)

“Are we at last brought to such humiliating and debasing degradation, that we cannot be trusted with arms for our defense? Where is the difference between having our arms in possession and under our direction, and having them under the management of Congress? If our defense be the real object of having those arms, in whose hands can they be trusted with more propriety, or equal safety to us, as in our own hands?” (Patrick Henry, 3 J. Elliot, Debates in the Several State Conventions 45, 2d ed. Philadelphia, 1836)

“The best we can hope for concerning the people at large is that they be properly armed.” (Alexander Hamilton, The Federalist Papers at 184-8)

“That the said Constitution shall never be construed to authorize Congress to infringe the just liberty of the press or the rights of conscience; or to prevent the people of The United States who are peaceable citizens from keeping their own arms...” (Samuel Adams, Debates and Proceedings in the Convention of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, at 86-87 (Peirce & Hale, eds., Boston, 1850))

Sources said the loaded gun Burress was packing slipped down his pants leg and went off as he fumbled to grab it

Truly, a game ending fumble. He's lucky to be alive.
