Parents: Slain Arkansas TV Anchor Was Sexually Assaulted

The parents of the television anchorwoman who was beaten to death said Monday there is evidence their daughter also was sexually assaulted, and that she broke her hand fighting her attacker.

Five days after a suspect was arrested in the Oct. 20 beating of KATV anchorwoman Anne Pressly, Guy and Patti Cannady said on NBC's "Today" that the family still has many questions about the killing.

This poor girl was raped and murdered and they make this creep sound like a simple tomcat burgler who was so surprised to be discovered robbing her home that he simply had to molest and kill her.

Why wouldn't it be? They've got a suspect in custody. They probably have enough evidence that he'll plead out to life in prison, rather than rolling the dice on the death penalty in court. This guy will never again see the world outside of prison.

The police are being professional in their wording. They do not want to give the defense any ammunition to claim that police statements before trial have prejudiced their client's right to a fair trial. Using more graphic language would serve no legitimate purpose here. There will be plenty of opportunity for that if this case ever gets to trial (unlikely- this perp will most likely plead out to avoid the death penalty).
