I’m in the heart of NASCAR country, and the talk is about all the difficulties teams are facing, especially with sponsorships. That, and team layoffs, most notably Petty Enterprises. If this trend continues, the field is going to be greatly reduced.
There’s been a ton of layoffs, I just read something yesterday that I will try to find again. Joe Nemechek was released yesterday, Regan Smith ROTY has no ride because of the merger between DEI and Ganassi.
I used to hold strong on the mandatory 43-car field, but I’d almost rather see fewer cars that can be competitive instead of field fillers. It would stink to see Petty fold, but I’m not sure the family’s heart is in it anymore. Charity and Victory Junction seems to be their new ambition.
