Why you shouldn't swim in lakes in Oklahoma!!!!
A very large alligator gar : the fish was caught in Broken Bow Lake, Oklahoma 8' - 10' and weighed 327 lbs
This is why people just disappear from the lakes in Oklahoma! And yes, this is for real."
Probably tastes like chicken.
I knew there was a reason why I pack a firearm when I’m fishing...
I ate one of them once. Practically needed a chainsaw to clean it.
Wow! How do you catch a fish like that??!
More like turtle. In Louisiana they nake meatballs out of them and serve them in a spicy Creole sauce.
It a shame they killed it. I swam with gars my whole young like and never heard of anyone being eaten. They are no fun to catch either. There like dragging in a log.
“I ate one of them once”

3 chickens and a 50 cal.
“With a horsehair,” Uncle Birdie Steptoe, (”Night of the Hunter”)
They don’t eat people........
We see them...breaking the surface chasing minnows...and we cast to them and they strike, and get their teeth caught up in the lure.
Further down the page, the commentary makes several factual corrections to the exagerated claim. The fish was caught in Texas, weighed less etc. and that the original claims of Oklahoma and larger size was done by pranksters. Here is the quote from the link you provided:
“The gar was actually caught by Keith Riehn and Robin Parks at the Sam Rayburn Reservoir, Texas in 2005. According to an August 2005 field journal entry published on the Aim Low Productions website, the gar weighed in at 244.5 lbs and was 8’ 2” long. “
In case you haven't... a diver was sent (presumably by the Corps of Engineers) to inspect something there. He came back up, and said "I ain't going back down..."
At least that's what I heard.
The don’t eat people..... Usually you use a gallon jug with a hook on it. Secure the jug to a tree and let the fish wear itself out.
Actually tasty if cooked right. We have a garfish rodeo every year on the Blind River in Louisiana.
Think I'd rather be keel hauled :-}
